ITV This Morning viewers puzzled by 'unbelievable' phobias during The Speakmans phone-in

This Morning viewers were left perplexed as they listen in to the show's latest phone-in. The Speakmans were back on the ITV daytime show as Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield returned from their week-long break away from the programme for half-term.

Therapists Nik and Eva Speakman were live in the studio to answer calls from viewers who wanted to 'banish' their phobias. And things got off to an unusual start as one woman, named Lenny, called and revealed that she is scared of the theme tune to hit movie Jaws.

"When I was 12 years old, I was watching Jaws with my parents, ended up having really bad tummy pains, was told to go upstairs and lay down, and from then on I have had the most severe phobia of the theme tune," she told the hosts and Nik and Eva.

"I actually woke up in hospital, I was having an operation – I ended up having appendicitis that night – woke up in hospital, and I thought I’d died," she went on to reveal. Lenny said that hearing the theme tune makes her 'cry and scream', with Nik noting that the music is "very emotive" and can transport people back to both positive and negative moments in their life.

But he actually suggested the song actually helped save her life. "What that song represents to you is being in absolute pain, going down to your parents and saying, 'Look I need some help for this', they’re engrossed in the film and they just think it’s not a major problem but then you end up being in hospital," he explained.

"What I want you to consider is instead of this being a bad thing, because of that tune, your parents thought. “Something’s going on here”, they took you to hospital and you got better. For me, I think that was a great thing, that song, because that helped you to get better."

When asked how she was feeling, Lenny said she'd have to go away and listed to the iconic movie's theme tune to know for sure. However, Phillip, 60, suggested they play the song live on air, which cause co-host Holly a few nerves, and the caller ended up giggling. "Honestly, I would’ve screamed and cried. Everyone knows how much I hate it," she ended up laughing.

There was also a call from mother called Rachel who admitted she has a phobia of belly buttons and can't even touch her own. Then Holly, 41, read a message out from one woman named Julia. She said: "Julia says I have a phobia of Thomas the Tank Engine - I even hate saying the words. It started after my son had an operation when he was little and he wore a Thomas the Tank Engine hat on the trolley. He was okay but I can't get rid of the phobia."

Eva reassuring replied: "Okay that's what we class as transference actually, and it does happen a lot with driving where people say they've got a fear of driving but it's actually because they've transferred it from a fear of heights or claustrophobia, and that's what's happened here," before going on to try help Julia.

But This Morning viewers just couldn't quite believe what they were hearing. @dollynoocat tweeted: "This is unbelievable today #ThisMorning." @ResidentJobber commented: "This has to be a parody right? I thought they talk about real life phobias #ThisMorning."

@TSkinner03 said: "It would be useful if #thismorning and the Speakmans could talk about common phobias that could help more people than extremely niche ones."
