You're probably thinking you've seen Mark Owen on your TV screens quite a lot of late. Well, that's because he has new music and a new tour to promote. His latest stop saw him take a seat on the famous This Morning sofa on Tuesday (September 27) as he chatted to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby about his latest projects.
The Take That star has released his brand new solo single You Only Want Me and album Land of Dreams, his first release outside of the band in almost a decade. He spoke sweetly to the presenting duo about how his children appear on the record.
Kicking off the interview by chatting about his new material, Mark told Phillip and Holly: "Pretty much just before lockdown and things closed, I wrote this song, I started to make a record... I was thinking about what I was kinda gonna do because I knew I had a break from Take That because we'd finished the third year anniversary."
"I got this one song called Rio which is on the album which I got really excited about and it sort of made me realise, 'I think I'm making a record here'. And I spoke to this wonderful record producer who's out in Los Angeles and we talked about the song and what we were gonna do and then everything closed and I was stuck with this song!" Mark continued.
"But it's been a wonderful process and it gave me time to sort of make the record, and once I've got off my own treadmill, I really took the time to make the record."
But Mark couldn't have been on the show without a mention of Take That and he confirmed that he and his bandmates Gary Barlow and Howard Donald have been discussing plans for new music. Phillip, 60, said: "We have to ask you because, I think you’ve hinted at it yourself, there are some little rumbles, rumours… You guys still do get together; there’s still plans; still something else to do?"
Mark replied: "Always. Yeah, yeah. And I’ve seen them this week, which has just been lovely. We have a movie coming out next year called Greatest Days, which we’re excited about and we’ve seen a rough cut. Our music sort of plays a backdrop story.
"And it was brilliant and I went with Gaz [Gary Barlow] to go and see it. We went to the cinema but we weren’t allowed to have popcorn. So we’re a bit gutted. In the cinema, you couldn’t eat popcorn but the movie looks great." He ended by adding: "And we’ve been talking about getting back in the studio. So we hope to do that next year as well."
Despite getting Take That fans' attention with his tease of more music, he also distracted viewers with his change in appearance, which seems to have been a running theme throughout his appearances on various TV shows of late.
The 50-year-old appeared on the show in a pair of light denim jeans which he paired with a vibrant pink shirt under a denim jacket. He's also been sporting longer locks and a moustache, which has also been distracting fans.
But This Morning viewers were loving his look and his chat on the show despite his 'criminal' action. @DinghyDiver tweeted: "Double denim is criminal but Mark Owen is carrying it off to be fair. #ThisMorning." @SallyPrice4 said: "Mark Owen looks very sophisticated...Rock On! Xx #ThisMorning."
@JimmyFunky posted: "Mark Owen is as genuine as he seems on screen, he’s absolutely lovely #ThisMorning." @LyndsM3 echoed: "Mark Owen seems so lovely #ThisMorning."
And they appeared to love him even more after he asked if he could stay for the cooking demo at the end of the show, and even donned an apron so he could act as sous chef to Phil Vickery. @Mofoman360 said: "How awesome was Mark Owen he stuck around where others would have run a mile after plugging what they was on the show for massive respect #ThisMorning."
@Sugar_Plum_90 tweeted: "Keep mark owen safe he’s a legend #ThisMorning." @DinghyDiver shared: "This cookery is so partridge I love it!!! Fair play Phil and Mark! #ThisMorning." @R4CH2 wrote: "Bl***y Mark cooking! bl***y brilliant. Made my day#ThisMorning."
@Poochface typed: "@ThisMorning Have absolutely loved today's show. Richard Hammond and Mark Owen are the highlights. #ThisMorning." @DinghyDiver added: "Ok just checking I wasn't drunk. Did that just happen? Phil Vickery and Mark Owen cuddles! Brilliant," alongside a screen grab of the chef proving the singer a knife and fork to tuck into the dish.
