It wasn't quite a case of the eagle-eyed but the eagle-hearing as This Morning viewers flocked to social media after being left stunned by Andi Peters' almost blunder. The presenter, who is regularly seen on Good Morning Britain and Lorraine, has been hosting the ITV daytime show this week alongside Rochelle Humes.
The pair were back at the helm of Thursday (August 18) and one of their latest interviews saw them discussing Diana, Prince of Wales' tragic passing 25 years ago. They were joined in the ITV studio by Lord Stevens, who investigated Diana's death, ahead of a new Channel 4 documentary will explore the police investigations that followed the royal's death and the conspiracy theories that spread in their wake.
The princess was 36 when she was killed in a car crash in Paris on August 31 1997. Investigating Diana: Death In Paris will recount the dual inquiries into the incident – the first by the French Brigade Criminelle in 1997, the second by the Metropolitan Police in 2004 - and will air this Sunday (August 21).
A co-production between Channel 4 and Discovery Plus, the story will be told as a “gripping and forensic police procedural” and explore “how powerful individuals, the press and the internet created and fuelled conspiracy theories that overwhelmed facts and called into question the very nature of truth”. It will feature interviews with detectives from both forces, some of them speaking publicly for the first time.
But on This Morning, while introducing Lord Stevens onto the programme, viewers were quick to point out a blunder, claiming Andi suffered a 'whoopsie' as he almost said the name of a BBC One show. Following an ad break, Andi began to segway in to the interview the guest and said: "Our next guest, Lord Stevens, who led the inquiry into the conspiracies surrounding Diana's death.
"And now he's taken part in a new Channel 4 series: Investigating Diana: Death in Paradi - Paris." This Morning fans were quick to point out the 52-year-old host briefly corrected himself and believe he was going to day 'Death in Paradise' instead of naming the French capital where the car crash took place in 1997.
@JayHBaker94 tweeted: "Wait Was Andi about to say Diana a death in paradise? Or Paris? My TV played up #ThisMorning." @soph_whitby said: "Not Andi Peters nearly saying “death in paradise” when referring to Princess Diana #ThisMorning." @carys_bromley commented: "Pls not #ThisMorning saying death in paradise instead of death in Paris for princess Diana."
@DinghyDiver shared: "Death in paradi... Paris Andi did a whoopsie #thismorning." @mrscarter22 fumed: "@thismorning @ITV Andi Peters. Three words. Death In Paradise. He's had 25 years to learn that she died in Paris. Bring in someone else for tomorrow. Please #ThisMorning."
