ITV This Morning viewers ask if they're in a 'parallel universe' as they share concern over Dirty Dancing performance

This Morning viewers couldn't quite believe what they were seeing when the show's studio was taken over on Tuesday (January 24). Hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were back at the helm of the ITV daytime show when they found themselves in the midst of a musical.

The pair were joined live on the show by the cast of West End show Dirty Dancing as the hit 80s movie is once again brought to the stage. The show-stopping performance from the case featured a number of the memorable songs and scenes taken from the 1987 film and, of course, that iconic lift.

The cast of the show performed while Holly and Phillip still safely sat on their famous sofa where they even got a miniture role to play in the performance. And This Morning chef Clodagh McKenna even got a starring role, recreating Lisa Houseman's scene-stealing performance of 'Hula Hana'.

Having clearly enjoyed the big show and dance, as it came to an end, Phillip and Holly rushed over to praise the cast before the latter said: "That lift at the end, I mean it must feel like a dream when it happens, but quite nerve-wracking. You have to do that every night."

Kira Malu – who plays the role of Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman – responded: "Yeah touch wood it’s been fine since, I mean I trust Michael whole-heartedly." Michael echoed: "You’ve got to be a good team to do that every night because it’s not the most difficult of lifts but it’s one of the most iconic in movie history."

Phillip, 60, then chimed in, saying: "Yeah but your arms are like the Flintstones," which caused laughter in the studio. The theatre star then quipped: "They're strong enough Phil, what do you think?" as he offered the presenter a chance to be lifted by him," to which the presenter replied: "Yeah I'd be straight up there, easy, easy" as they laughed.

But it appears This Morning viewers weren't completely onboard with the performance. @susie_retro tweeted: "Have I fallen into some kind of parallel universe #ThisMorning Nooooooooooooo." @Mysteron_Voice complained: "This Dirty Dancing thing is just an all round mess ... #ThisMorning."

@SenorApple2014 posted: "The f*** did my eyes and ears just witness?! #ThisMorning." @misscatxxxx asked: "Wtf is going on #ThisMorning."

Others, however, were concerned as they spotted some of the performers getting comfortable in the studio kitchen. @Ophelia_ButtsUK said: "Hope they disinfect the counter before Clodagh cooks on it #ThisMorning." @Mabel_Mouse_ echoed: "I hope they disinfect that worktop before Clodagh’s cooking segment. #ThisMorning." @craggsy82 added: "Jesus, they cook on that counter... #Thismorning."
