ITV This Morning's presenter shake-up as Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary miss show

Avid viewers of This Morning are pretty used to the show's format by now, which is why there was slight confusion when fans of the ITV programme tuned in on Friday morning.

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield are the main presenters who are at the helm of the daytime show from Monday through to Thursday. Then every Friday, it is Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary who take over to get viewers in the mood for the weekend.

Alison and Dermot have been co-hosting the programme together every Friday since January 2021. The duo took over from married couple Holmes and Ruth Langsford who spent years hosting the programme together before they were replaced.

Alison, 47, and Dermot, 49, are also often seen presenting the show together during the holidays, such as Easter and summer, whilst Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield take a break.

Josie Gibson recently shut down rumours of an apparent feud between her co-stars Alison and Dermot following claims that the pair were 'bickering' on set.

The Big Brother winner, who also co-hosts This Morning from time-to-time, told OK! : "Those two are like brother and sister. I don’t know what’s been written but they really do get on. Dermot worships Alison and Alison loves Dermot.”

But in a major shake-up on Friday (July 8), viewers switched on to find Holly and Phil at the centre of their screens, with Alison and Dermot nowhere to be seen.

Many fans then took to Twitter to share their confusion.

@kouganray asked: "It's Friday, why are phil and holly on today?", as @EnfieldGarry wrote: "Phil and Holly on a Friday, what?"

Some gutted viewers then tweeted: "Where’s Alison and Dermot?! They bring the Friday mood," as @LuMarie44 said: "Where’s Dermot & Alison?? Very disappointed," and a third penned: "It is Friday? What are these two on for?."

But the reason for Alison and Dermot's absence is because Friday's show (July 8) was the last time Phil and Holly will be presenting before they take an extended break for summer, with a whole host of other presenters set to take over.

Friday favourites Alison and Dermot will be back next week to kick off the summer line-up, hosting for the first two weeks from July 11th.

Josie Gibson will also be back presenting alongside Craig Doyle, and Rochelle Humes will be joined by Good Morning Britain and Lorrain regular Andi Peters. Josie will later return with Bolton's very own Vernon Kay who made his hosting debut on This Morning in December.

Rochelle and Craig will then join forces before her former The Saturday's pal Mollie King takes her spot alongside Craig. Ruth and Rylan will the eventually make their comeback, before Rochelle and Vernon finally take the reins to end the summer before Holly and Phil's return.

The summer guest hosts will front the live two-and-a-half hour show from White City’s Television Centre until September 2 before Phillip and Holly return on the 5th.
