Michael Mosley has issued diet tips for people going on holiday.
Dr Mosley regularly appears on This Morning and his methods have proved increasingly popular over the years. The health guru's programmes have won a number of awards, and he was named "medical journalist of the year" by the British Medical Association for a ground-breaking programme on Helicobacter pylori.
Peak holiday season has arrived as people will be enjoying a well deserved break. Dr Mosley has offered advice for how people can still maintain fitness goals during their sunny getaway.

According to the Daily Record, here is his advice:
1. Have a late breakfast
Dr Mosley is credited for creating the Fast 800 diet, which incorporates Time Restricted Eating (TRE). He believes it's not just what you eat, but also when. TRE involves fasting for a 12-hour period every 24 hours. This means a shorter time frame to eat throughout the day, to allow sufficient time for cell repair.
As well as weight loss, the diet guru claims studies show TRE to have a number of benefits including better mood and energy levels. The good news is holidaymakers can still incorporate TRE into their routine while travelling. If your holiday package includes breakfast, see what the latest available time to eat is. This way, you’ll be able to enjoy a bigger breakfast that will keep you fuelled throughout the day and enjoy your evening meal a little earlier.
2. Walk
According to Mosley, incidental exercise like walking is a great way to keep active outside of a more structured workout routine. Walking is a great way to see more sights and stay active. If it’s not too far, and you’re fairly fit and healthy, walk or cycle to your sightseeing locations.
3. Avoid six foods at hotel buffet
The temptation to shelve your diet is all to easy while travelling. If you're staying at a hotel, the breakfast buffet can be full of tasty but unhealthy options. But there are certain foods available that you can enjoy from the selection, you just need to know what to choose.
Those watching their health can enjoy the following breakfast items regularly:
- Eggs
- Omelettes – some hotels have omelette stations where you can choose your own fillings, so don’t be shy with the vegetables.
- Greek yogurt with berries
- Vegetables are often available either cooked or raw. You may find cooked spinach, which is delicious with eggs
- Cheese, nuts and avocado are great healthy fats to add to your plate as they’ll keep you fuller for longer.
He advises against the following foods at breakfast:
- Fruit juices
- Pastries
- Cereals
- Muffins and cake
- Dried fruit
- Hash browns
The following foods can be enjoyed occasionally:
- Bread – depending on where you’re holidaying, there may be some healthier bread options. Avoid the plain white varieties and occasionally enjoy sourdough or rye, if available.
- Sausages and bacon
- Local treats – holidays are special occasions, and don’t happen too often, so you may want to involve yourself in trying the local delicacies every now and then.
It can be easy to overdo it when faced with a mountain of delicious breakfast options. If you're having trouble finding food which fit your goals, have a small portion of what's available. Portion control should always be remembered to help achieve your weight loss goals.
4. Limit alcohol intake
Alcohol is one of the reasons people put on a significant amount of weight, as they’re unaware of the calories in drinks such as beer, wine and mixers. If you are looking to enjoy a drink on holiday, Mosley recommends opting for a red wine. Regularly drinking water between beverages will help stagger your intake.
5. Pack an emergency option
It's a good idea to prepare some food options if you know you'll struggle to find a healthy treat. If you have a long day trip planned, protein packed snacks like nuts and seeds can be easily purchased. Fruit is always good to have on hand if you need a sweeter fix.
If you are staying in self catering accommodation, buy fresh ingredients from the local markets and make your own healthier meals. These can include sandwiches and salads, as long as they contain some form of protein and are light on cheeses and sauces.
6. Enjoy yourself
The most important thing to remember while on holiday is to have fun. Even if you fall off track while travelling, don't let these slip ups negatively effect your trip. Consistency is crucial to weight loss, so you can easily get back on track once you arrive home.
