ITV This Morning's Holly Willoughby breaks social media silence after issuing statement

Holly Willoughby has returned to Instagram following her This Morning comeback. The 42-year-old was back on ITV screens yesterday after a two-week break following Phillip Schofield's exit from the daytime programme.

Phil, 61, stepped down from his role on the daytime show on Saturday, May 20 following a rumoured rift with Holly and later quit ITV altogether after revealing he'd had an affair with a younger colleague. Following his exit, Holly took some time away from both television and social media.

But the presenter returned to the daytime show on Monday, June 5 alongside Josie Gibson and issued an emotional statement to viewers. The mum of three said she had felt "shaken, troubled and let down" as she addressed the controversy. You can read her statement in full here.

Holly remained quiet on Instagram for her first day back, breaking tradition by not posting her This Morning outfit details on her platform. However, it appears it's back to business for Holly who broke her social media silence on Tuesday, June 6 by posting to her grid for the first time since Thursday, May 18.

Sharing her outfit details, Holly posed in a blue floral dress from Ghost Fashion and told her 8.3 million followers: "Morning Tuesday… see you on @thismorning at 10am with @josiegibson85 … the wonderful @sarah.beeny joins us today to talk about her incredibly important and personal documentary."

The presenter was inundated with comments from her fans, with one writing: "Holly you look lovely I hope today is not as nerve wracking as yesterday for you."

While another added: "Fabulous colours. You look lovely and I hope you’re feeling ok," and a third said: "Beautiful dress. Look amazing."

It comes after Holly addressed Phil's absence with her first show back on Monday. Opening the programme alongside Josie she told viewers: "Right, deep breath. Firstly, are you okay? I hope so."

She continued: "Feels very strange indeed sitting here without Phil and I imagine you might have been feeling a lot like I have, shaken, troubled, let down, worried about the wellbeing of people on all sides of what's been going on and full of questions.

"You, me, and all of us at This Morning gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth. Who acted in a way that they themselves felt that they had to resign from ITV and step down from a career that they loved. That is a lot to process and it's equally hard to see the toll that it's taken on their own mental health.

"I think what unites us all now is a desire to heal, for the health and wellbeing of everyone. I hope that as we start this new chapter and get back to a place of warmth and magic that this show holds for all of us we can find strength in each other."

Holly added: "And from the heart, can I just say thank you for all of your kind messages and thank you for being here this morning, myself, Josie, Dermot, Alison and Craig, and every single person that works on this show, will continue to work hard every single day to bring you the show that we love."

This Morning continues weekdays at 10am on ITV1 and ITVX. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
