ITV This Morning's Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield pause show for 'breaking news' announcement

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield momentarily paused the latest edition of This Morning to bring viewers some breaking news. The presenting duo were back at the helm of the ITV daytime show on Tuesday (November 1) and were back to their normal selves.

Kicking off the week on Monday, Holly, 41, and Phillip, 60, were 'swapped' on the popular programme for Wednesday Addams and Uncle Fester as the show underwent a huge Halloween transformation. The pair were joined by Morticia Addams (Alison Hammond), Gomez (Steve Wilson), Kitty Kat (Matthew Wright), Pugsley Addams (Gok Wan), Cousin Kint (Gyles Brandreth), and Long John Addams (Dermot O’Leary) on the special edition of the show, full of spooky recipes, Halloween fashion, advice and a whole load of haunted happenings.

Scene-stealing butler Lurch (Josie Gibson) also grunted his way through the show, opening doors, assisting and even singing and dancing to surprise guest and Mysterious Ghoul Peter Andre in an out-of-character moment.

But it was all back to normal on today's show, with Holly and Phillip ditching the costumes and even getting off to a festive start as they joined Mariah Carey who appears to have signalled the start of the Christmas countdown with a brilliant social media video.

The duo then cracked on with the show as normal, with appearances from Martin Lewis who was on hand to answer viewers' urgent money questions, Swedish activist Greta Thunberg on her latest project ‘The Climate Book’, and there was also the latest soap gossip with Sharon Marshall and fashion with Louise Roe.

From cosy cardigans to statement sweaters, Louise was on hand with her pick of the best knitwear to keep you all wrapped up this winter. But at the end of segment, instead of teasing what was still to come on the show before heading to an ad break, Holly and Phillip paused with some news.

"Right then, we've got some breaking news now," Phillip said before clarifying what he was about to say hadn't yet been confirmed by ITV. "We were talking about I'm A Celeb at the beginning of the show today but it's been reported by multiple news organisations that the Tory MP and former health secretary Matt Hancock will be heading to the I'm A Celebrity jungle," he added.

A clip then played of Mr Hancock walking towards 10 Downing Street. "Is he going there now," Holly jokingly asked to laughed from her co-host and the This Morning crew.

"He's got a long walk," she then quipped. "He might get there by Sunday. " Phillip then added: "He's not dressed for it, he doesn't need that briefcase." Holly also shared a quote from one of Mr Hancock's political allies who have said he will be using his appearance to promote his work on dyslexia.

After it was revealed he has reportedly signed up to join I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! ahead of the 2022 series beginning this weekend, it was announced he had his Tory whip suspended with immediate effect. Mr Hancock is expected to swap representing his constituents at Westminster for eating bugs in the jungle.

The West Suffolk MP was forced to quit as health secretary after breaking coronavirus lockdown rules by conducting an affair in his ministerial office. Chief whip Simon Hart said in a statement on Tuesday (November 1): "Following a conversation with Matt Hancock, I have considered the situation and believe this is a matter serious enough to warrant suspension of the whip with immediate effect."

Philip appeared to be trying to keep a straight face and Holly stifled a laugh as she repeated that ITV hadn't confirmed Mr Hancock's appearance on the ITV reality show. "It's not confirmed, however, if it is true it's shaping up to be quite the year," Holly said with a slight grin.

After Phillip suggested ITV 'hurry up' with a confirmation, he added: "Hell of a booking!" before the pair moved on with the remainder of the show.
