This Morning has spent most of the week off air but it wouldn't be live TV without a bit of chaos. Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary were at the helm of the ITV daytime show on Friday (November 25). It is the first time the show has been on screens since Monday after being cancelled due to live coverage of the World Cup in Qatar.
And there was a change to the show as the hosting duo ditched the usual ITV studio to recreate the famous set in their local pub amid Wales' latest World Cup game and ahead of England's return to the pitch against the USA this evening.
Among their guests on only the second show of the week was Mel B who appeared hours after a 'rotten' interview on The One Show on Thursday evening (November 24). Viewers of the BBC One show were left baffled when the Spice Girl appeared on the eye-catching green sofa alongside Ruby Wax and Emily Atack about their new show.
Their four-part series Trailblazers: A Rocky Mountain Road Trip sees the women pay homage to intrepid Victorian explorer Isabella Bird as they retrace her steps through the mountain range in Colorado, USA.
While speaking to Alex Jones and Ronan Keating, Ruby was explaining: "So we were after the American dream and then it went rotten." But Mel B interjected: "Just like this interview!" The joke sent the studio into bursts of laughter, as Mel reminded people to tune into the new series. And it wasn't long until she was out of her seat and trying to leave the studio.
And it appears she brought the chaos again as seconds into her appearance on This Morning, the fire alarm started going off in the make-shift studio. Mel was quick to leap off the sofa and joked 'we're done' before appearing concerned that no one was moving. Alison laughed and admitted: "I love when it goes wrong on live TV! But we did a check and the building is not on fire."
"We're done talking, it's out on Monday," Mel B went on to say as she plugged her upcoming series. She then sat back down in inbetween the host and took over their hosting duties and told viewers they'd be back after the break. They eventually returned and all was well but Mel tried to derail the interview a few times when she admitted to not wanting to talk about herself and started asking Alison and Dermot questions.
And when it was time to wrap up the interview, the singer got up off the famous sofa and walked in front of the hosts to exit the studio as they tried to speak directly to viewers watching at home. Dermot remarked that Mel B 'was like a 'hurricane' on the show before they moved on.
But later, the fire alarm sounded again as they tried to get stuck into some party fashion ahead of the festive season. And This Morning viewers were soon on social media commenting on the comical live drama. @EnfieldGarry tweeted: "A fire alarm, haha that’s new. #ThisMorning." @stew22_stew said: "@thismorning, did that just happen, for real, the fire alarm #thismorning."
@FlopsyPickle commented: "Some poor cameraman setting off the fire alarm in the hope of it ending this embarrassment of an ‘interview’ #ThisMorning." But @SarahHarkin2 added: "@thismorning @AlisonHammond @radioleary @OfficialMelB all hell has broken loose and I love it bring Mel B in permanently with these two amazing dream team #thismorning."
