New ITV drama The Suspect is set to bring suspense and twists and turns to Sunday night viewing. The drama marks the start of the ITV autumn line-up, including dramas like Doc Martin, which you can read more about here.
The Suspect follows doctor Joe O’Loughlin, who Aidan Turner will play, who appears to have a perfect life, a devoted wife, a loving daughter, successful practice as a clinical psychologist, a media profile, and a publishing deal.
When a young woman is found in a shallow grave in a West London cemetery, the police have to figure out if the young woman has been murdered or if it is a case of suicide. Dr Joe is asked to help with the investigation and as viewers learn more about him, they realise he might not be as innocent as he first seems.

Aidan Turner as Doctor Joe O’Loughlin
Playing the lead of Dr Joe O’Loughlin is Aidan Turner, who many will recognise as the lead of the BBC show Poldark. Dr Joe appears to have it all but as viewers get to know him there are some secrets lurking underneath the perfect exterior.
Aidan played Ross Poldark in Poldark from 2015 to 2019 and also starred in The Hobbit film series from 2012 to 2014. Most recently he played Leonardo in the TV series Leonardo da Vinci in 2021.
Camilla Beeput as Julianne O'Loughlin
In the role of Doctor Joe's wife, Julianne O'Loughlin, is Camilla Beeput. Julianne has compromised her own career ambitions to raise her and Joe's daughter Charlie and feels under threat when their lives begin to unravel.
Camilla is a musical star, as well as an actress. She has released singles with Lionel Richie and starred in musicals including West Side Story and Daddy Cool. She most recently starred in Save Me, alongside Stephen Graham.
Shaun Parkes as DI Ruiz
DI Ruiz, who will be played by Shaun Parkes, is one of the detectives investigating the death of a young woman buried in a shallow grave. This investigation will test the limits of his intuition and ingenuity as he struggles to understand what hides beneath the obvious facts of the case.
Shaun has worked with Welsh screenwriter Russell T Davies on Doctor Who and Casanova. He most recently starred in the 2020 TV series Small Axe and he also acts on stage.
Anjli Mohindra as DS Devi
New to investigating murders is DS Devi played by Anjli Mohindra. During the series she begins to trust DI Ruiz less and less as he ignores protocol.
Anjli has starred in the popular BBC One drama Bodyguard and most recently the gripping 2021 series Vigil. She has also done many voiceovers for the sci-fi series Doctor Who.
Adam James as Dr Gerald Jack Owens
Dr Joe's best friend since university, Dr Gerald Jack Owens is played by Adam James. Dr Jack is close friends with both Joe and Julianne.
Adam has starred in the BBC medical drama Casualty and most recently featured in Vigil. His extensive credits include acting in film, TV, and on stage.
Sian Clifford as Dr Rachel Fenwick
Another close friend of Dr Joe is Dr Rachel Fenwick who will be played by Sian Clifford. Dr Fenwick never wavers in her loyalty to Joe and helps him when others will not.
Sian is best known for her role as Claire in the BBC comedy-drama series Fleabag and played Martha Crawley in Vanity Fair. In 2022 she starred in the TV series Life After Life.
Angela Griffin as Melinda
Melinda is played by Angela Griffin. Melinda is not a big fan of Dr Joe and there is a lot of history between them.
Angela starred in Coronation Street from 1992 to 1998 and in Waterloo Road. She is set to return to the re-boot of Waterloo Road, which will air later in 2022.
