ITV The Games sees Mel B cheering on daughter Phoenix but puzzled fans make complaints

Spice Girls star Mel B was in the audience to cheer on her daughter in the first episode of the new ITV series The Games.

Phoenix Gulzar-Brown, 23, was one of the female competitors in the new ITV show, which is a sports event between 12 celebrities that aired for the first time on Monday evening. Not all viewers were impressed though, with some criticising the lack of time spent on actual sporting events and the number of adverts.

Phoenix came second in the women's hurdles event that opened the night, with the camera regularly panning to her mum Mel B in the crowd as she cheered her on while helping hold up a sign that read 'Team Phoenix'.

Other celebrity competitors she went up against included Love Island's Olivia Attwood, Emmerdale star Rebecca Sarker and model Christine McGuiness.

Many viewers were impressed by Phoenix’s efforts, with @PerrymanJack tweeting: "Phoenix actually had a nice technique over the hurdles."

@emmdeeaitch posted: "Phoenix had pretty good form. Could be a contender with some training,"

In the rest of the show, Phoenix would team up with The Wanted singer Max George in the synchronised dive and ended the night in second place out of the women.

However, some viewers took to Twitter to complain about the quality of the show and the calibre of the contestants, with @maxramswell writing: "The Games is the worst thing I’ve seen on tele this year. Can someone explain how Mel B’s daughter is a celebrity please."

@Haydendanixx wrote: "Hardly celebrities - half the cast of Love Island and Mel B's daughter! the only actual celebs are the ones ITV have bribed from their own soaps."

@JonStone101 said: "Paddy Mcguiness' Wife and Mel B's daughter. So less Celebrities and more relations of Celebrities then?"

Others criticised the amount of time the one and a half hour show spent in the studio and away from the sporting events, with viewers saying there was 'too much waffle'.
