ITV The Chase's Bradley Walsh taken aback as Anne Hegerty's shares rare condition on air

Bradley Walsh was taken aback as Anne Hegerty detailed her health condition on The Chase.

The 62-year-old presenter welcomed four new quizzers on Monday's edition of the ITV gameshow. Daren, Beka, Carole and Russell were testing their wits against the Governess on today's episode.

Daren was first up and built up £4,000 in an impressive cash-builder. The 53-year-old stockbroker took on the Chaser in a nailbiting head to head before he was sadly eliminated.

For Daren's final question, Bradley asked: "Someone with alexithymia cannot recognise what?" Daren incorrectly answered "faces" and Anne caught him when she correctly responded "feelings".

The Chaser explained she knew Daren's answer was wrong as she has been diagnosed with prosopagnosia, which is a neurological disorder characterised by the inability to recognise faces.

She said: "I have it but I don't need to recognise your face because you're out of here." Bradley probed Anne on her condition as she elaborated: "If I meet someone and their face is not familiar and they then go out of the room and someone comes back in I really am not at all sure if it's the same person."

The host shot back: "Prosopagnosia, that's amazing." The team fought back after Daren's exit as the remaining players all progressed to the Final Chase.

They built up 11 steps in their bid to win £14,000, but were caught by Anne with 54 seconds remaining.
