ITV The Chase fans outraged as 'selfish' contestants aren't on show for money

Fans of The Chase were perplexed by 'selfish' players on tonight's episode.

Normally, four contestants are welcomed on to the ITV quiz show with high hopes of winning a cash prize. However, as host Bradley Walsh introduced Wendy, Jack, Susheel and Neil to the show, viewers were taken aback when a couple of them claimed that some things are more important than the money.

Jack, a 23-year-old masters student, claimed that the experience of being on the show was just as valuable to him. Despite smashing the cash builder round, earning a whopping £8,000, he still opted to go for a low offer of £1,000.

Fans on Twitter went wild as they questioned what the purpose of him being on the show was. They hoped he enjoyed his 'experience' as he was caught by chaser Shaun Wallace and sent home empty handed.

But viewers were later disgruntled once more as a second player admitted that the money didn't matter too much to him either. Neil, a 50-year-old care worker, took a low minus offer. Shaun defended the player's choice, as he said: "It's not always about the money."

But fans on Twitter weren't impressed. Rik said: "If its not about the money why do they compete for a cash prize? #TheChase."

Laura said: "How is beating the chaser more valuable than money?" Meanwhile, Bill said: "Of course it's about the money or there's no point of going the show !! #TheChase"

All of the contestants went home with just the experience to remember as the chaser caught them in the final round, sending them home with nothing.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and the ITV Hub
