ITV The Chase fans fume as players 'robbed' of £52,000 moments before end of episode

The Chase viewers fumed as a team of quizzers lost £52,000 at the end of today's episode.

Bradley Walsh welcomed four new players on Tuesday's edition of the ITV gameshow. Charlie, Catherine, Heidi and Antony were taking on Mark Labbett in a bid to win a cash prize.

It was a strong team performance as all players progressed to the final Chase. Catherine opted to take the higher offer of £38,000 before she navigated her way past the Beast to substantially boost the cash haul.

The players were competing for an overall prize of £52,000 in the final round. The team overcame a tricky start to the final Chase to build up an impressive 21 steps and set Mark Labbett a difficult target.

However, the Beast put in an imperious display to catch the team with just three seconds remaining. The team were just one question away from taking home the eye-watering sum of money and fans on Twitter claimed an answer in the Final Chase was unfairly marked as incorrect.

Bradley asked: "Leap of Faith is a memoir by which Italian jockey? "Charlie answered "Franco Dettori", but Bradley denied the response as the legendary jockey is known as Frankie Dettori.

However, fans on Twitter thought it should have been allowed since the former Question of Sport panelist's real name is Lanfranco Dettori. George said: "Absolutely robbed by the Dettori question"

Joe commented: "Someone please tell me why "Franco Dettori" wasn't allowed when that is genuinely his name (Lanfranco) robbed of 52k"

Mark tweeted: "Well, given there was literally one point in it and the answer Franco wasn’t permitted for Lanfranco Detorri; given it is actually the guys real name, not Frankie. I’m pretty certain the team did actually win today.. even if they didn’t take home the £52k."

Zena posted : "Totally agree, his name is Lanfranco not actually Frankie, so they should’ve won that money."
