ITV Saturday Night Takeaway fans stunned as they realise they've been singing wrong song lyrics for almost 40 years

Saturday Night Takeaway fans were left stunned as they realised they'd been singing the wrong lyrics to a pop classic for almost 40 years. Viewers were gobsmacked when Culture Club took to the stage to perform their number one hit Karma Chameleon.

Frontman Boy George belted out the classic for the sing-along game which sees three families win a £500 cash prize if they get the lyrics right. Subtitles revealed the lyrics to other viewers watching at home, and they were scratching their heads.

It emerged that the 1983 classic opens with the words 'desert loving in your eyes' and not 'there's a loving in your eyes.'

@see75 gasped: "How have I been singing the first line Karma Chameleon wrong for all these years?!! Who knew it was desert loving in your eyes all the way?!!!"

@rozlaws protested: "Desert loving? That’s not how Karma Chameleon starts!"

@jhuntridge commented: "Never knew karma chameleon started with the word 'desert.'"

And @jennaradio wondered: "Say what now? Who else thought the first line was 'There's a loving...'?"

There was more confusion as fans claimed a contestant was 'robbed' over the line 'red, gold and green'. Hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly declared she had sung 'dream' instead of 'green.' but viewers disagreed.

@MonkeySocks92 exclaimed: "Eh? That lady said green not dream!!"

@Tz_brrr wrote: "No she defo said green tho?? Robbed on telly smh."

@maellmers tweeted: "Green she said it twice.... not dream.... hope they run it back and give her the cash...."

@sjammo43 fumed: "That woman said green in the song lyrics… twice! She was robbed!"

And @MathewHulbert complained: "The woman definitely sang 'green,' which was correct. Sort it out, @antanddec!!!"
