ITV's The Masked Dancer forced to unmask three contestants due to injury

The Masked Dancer had a surprise twist on tonight's episode.

An additional contestant was unmasked on the ITV show, where celebrities conceal their true identities with outrageous costumes. Clues are given to help the judging panel and viewers at home try and decipher who's behind the mask.

In a rare occurrence, a third celeb was unmasked instead of the originally planned two, due to a backstage injury. ITV confirmed to the Liverpool ECHO that a contestant being injured resulted in the third unmasking.

While the injured party didn't have the opportunity to dance again, judges Davina McCall, Johnathan Ross, Peter Crouch, and Oti Mabuse still took a stab at trying to guess their identity before it was revealed.

Introducing the injured party, host Joel Dommett said: "We were hoping to see another amazing performance from Pillar and Post tonight but sadly Pillar took a tumble during rehearsals and I am absolutely gutted to tell you. On medical advice, they had to withdraw from the competition."

He explained that we still had to find out who the dance due are, as Post came onto stage carrying Pillar in their arms. It was time for each of the judges to give their guesses.

Jonathan Ross thought the couple might have been husband and wife David Mitchell and Victoria Coren Mitchell. Oti Mabuse guessed that it could have been BBC's Dan Walker and Naga Munchetty.

Davina McCall suspected that Ben Cohen and Kristina Rihanoff could be hiding in the costumes. And finally, Peter Crouch suspected that David Seaman and his wife Frankie behind the masks.

Miraculously, Peter was correct with his guess after taking note of the size of Post's hands. It was football legend David and his Dancing on Ice professional partner Frankie Poultney. Addressing the early exit, Frankie said: "It's not the way that we wanted to go but it happens."

Later in the show Tomato Sauce was also unmasked. It was revealed that she was actually TV presenter Steph McGovern.
