It was a nail-biting episode with a lot of money at stake but the outcome of Tuesday's (October 11) episode of The Chase didn't turn out as fans of the show had expected and viewers were fuming. Some critics even declared the quizzers had been 'robbed' of £52,000.
The ITV show began calmly enough with Bradley Walsh welcoming the latest players to the ruthless quiz programme. Four new contestants took up their positions ready to meet the chasers.
Contestants Charlie, Catherine, Heidi and Antony would be taking on Mark Labbett (nicknamed 'The Beast' on the show) in a bid to win a cash prize and the team seemed confident. The quizzers had never met before appearing on the show but they gave a strong team performance and all players progressed to the final Chase. Catherine opted to take the higher offer of £38,000 before she navigated her way past the Beast to substantially boost the cash haul.

The players were competing for an overall prize of £52,000 in the final round, according to Liverpool Echo, which followed the action. The team overcame a tricky start to the final Chase to build up an impressive 21 steps and set Mark Labbett a difficult target. However, the Beast put in an imperious display to catch the team with just three seconds remaining.
With just one question away from taking home the eye-watering sum of money, they faced the final question. And this is where the controversy began.
Bradley asked: "Leap of Faith is a memoir by which Italian jockey? "Charlie answered "Franco Dettori". However, Bradley said the answer was wrong as the legendary jockey is known as Frankie Dettori.
Fans on Twitter thought it should have been allowed since the former Question of Sport panelist's real name is Lanfranco Dettori. One social media user jumped in: "Absolutely robbed by the Dettori question". Another said: "Someone please tell me why "Franco Dettori" wasn't allowed when that is genuinely his name (Lanfranco) robbed of 52k".
Another outraged viewer added: "Well, given there was literally one point in it and the answer Franco wasn’t permitted for Lanfranco Detorri; given it is actually the guy's real name, not Frankie. I’m pretty certain the team did actually win today.. even if they didn’t take home the £52k." Someone else agreed, adding their comment: "Totally agree, his name is Lanfranco not actually Frankie, so they should’ve won that money."
