ITV's Ruth Dodsworth installs alarms at home as 'dangerous' ex set for prison release

ITV weather presenter Ruth Dodsworth says she has installed alarms "everywhere" at home as she revealed her "dangerous" ex-husband is set to be released from prison.

The 46-year-old broadcaster and journalist's former partner Jonathan was jailed one year ago after he pleaded guilty to stalking and coercive control.

Today, Ruth - who is a familiar face on ITV Wales - told her Twitter followers that she has been speaking to police on how she can protect her home and family ahead of his possible release.

She wrote on the social platform: "Exactly one year ago today my ex-husband pleaded guilty to stalking and coercive control.

"I've spent this afternoon with South Wales Police learning how to protect my home/family ahead of his possible imminent release.

"That's our reality. Alarms everywhere! It's all good but it's not over."

She added: "He was sentenced to three years, nine months, to run concurrently.

"Told to serve half minimum. Can apply for early release four-and-a-half before the halfway point.

"This is standard apparently. Lifetime restraining order, yes. But that's just a piece of paper. He's a dangerous man."

Ruth has slowly managed to move on following her relationship with her ex.

Last June, she revealed she has met a new partner and is enjoying her new-found freedom.

For 20 years her ex dictated everything about her life, from the clothes she wore, to where she could go and who she could see, even having a tracker fitted to her car so he could trace her movements, WalesOnline reported.

At the time, she said: "I am healing, I am having to re-learn living. Practical things like wearing what I want. That might sound so trivial to everyone else, but for so long I haven't been able to make those decisions.

"Re-learning how to have a relationship with another man has just been the loveliest thing, but I have had to re-learn behaviours.

"I don't have to hide my phone. I don't have to say where I am every single minute of every day. These are the things I am having to re-learn, but I am doing it."

"It has been the most overwhelming experience of my life, but it has been entirely, entirely positive," she said.

"I didn't really want the story out there but in hindsight I think it was the best thing that ever happened."

The former couple met in 2001, one year after Ruth became a weather presenter, and they married in 2002.
