ITV's Phillip Schofield lands Queen's Jubilee role as channel confirms plans and A list stars teased

Phillip Schofield has been confirmed as one of ITV's hosts for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee after the channel announced it's plans for the upcoming event.

The nation is getting ready for an extended Bank Holiday as Queen Elizabeth II gets set to celebrate 70 years on the throne, with TV schedules set to be taken over by coverage of the festivities that are planned in her honour. And ITV have been quick off the mark with news on how they will cover the Jubilee with a special celebration on Sunday, May 15, a few weeks ahead of the event itself.

And having been confirmed as one of ITV 's anchors for the celebrations, alongside Julie Etchingham and Alan Titchmarsh, This Morning and Dancing on Ice host Phillip has given a teaser on what viewers can expect: "There's something for everybody- musical performances from Keala Settle, Gregory Porter, Katherine Jenkins, the Commonwealth partaking in a huge spectacle and of course, we'll be taken on a journey through history as told by some brilliant A-List names such as Dame Helen Mirren and Tom Cruise.

"Myself and Julie will be guiding the nation through the sequence of events, and we'll get to interview some of the biggest names attached to the show also. You don't want to miss it."

On what it meant to him to land the Jubilee presenting gig, Phillip explained: "What a milestone - it's an honour to be involved and to be asked back following the Diamond Jubilee.

"Celebrating the 70-year reign of a British monarch has never happened before, so it feels incredible that we are involved in a key part of history that the British public will look back on for years to come. The fact the Queen acceded the throne when she was only 25 years old really is astonishing. It's a joy to be involved."

And on the challenges of hosting such a momentous live event, Phillip added: "Live events are never easy! And something of this scale of course comes with its challenges. The job of Julie and myself is to steer the nation through proceedings as smoothly as possible, so if anything does go wrong - you hopefully don't notice.

"Presenting all of these different elements live to the nation with thousands of onlookers will be a bit different to being sat in the usual comfort of the This Morning sofa. But in both circumstances, I'm blessed by the presence of a wonderful co-host."
