ITV's Love Island on hunt for next Edinburgh singletons to take part in 2022

Hit TV show Love Island is on the hunt for their next King and Queen of the Island, and are heading up to the capital and beyond in their search.

Producers of the hit ITV2 show have said they are looking for "vibrant singles" in Edinburgh and the rest of Scotland to 'do bits' in the villa this summer, when the programme returns to filming in 2022.

As reported by the Daily Record, the chosen participants of the eighth season of the show will spend time in the iconic luxury villa, as they 'crack on' to find their soulmate.

Edinburgh singletons that fancy a dive into the waters of love must be at least 18-years-old, hold a valid passport, and be willing to devote ten weeks of their life for production of the programme.

As noted on the ITV website, the application form for the popular dating show reads: "ITV2 are looking for vibrant single from across the UK who want to head to the sun, in search of love.

“The chosen cast will spend time in a luxury villa, getting to know one another, but to remain in paradise they must win the hearts of the public and their fellow Islanders who ultimately decide the fate on Love Island.”

Scotland's run in the programme has been rather hit and miss since the show began filming in 2015, but hasn't been without sheer drama, and snakey activity.

Most recently, Glenrothes-born Shannon Singh was dumped from the villa in a dramatic fashion, only 24 hours into her time at the villa in 2021.

West coasters Harry Young (Wishaw) and Dale Mehmet (Glasgow) were also dumped from the Island not long into their stay in the 2021 series.

Closer east was where Love Island found success as West Lothian's own Paige Turley won the show in 2020 after coupling with Finn Tapp, and winning hearts in the first ever winter series of the show in South Africa.

Other Scottish contestants that have gone on to big things following their stint on the show include Laura Anderson, most famous for her outburst at the 'loyal' Georgia, and fitness fanatic Anton Danyluk, who was hilariously snubbed by potential love interest Anna in the recoupling.

Another TV show that needs more Scottish contestants is popular baking competition The Great British Bake Off, as Edinburgh Live reported back in September that fans called out the lack of Scottish representation.

The 2021 line-up included sales managers, software developers and even a police detective - but, notably, no participants from Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

Fans across the country had been looking forward to another autumn of Signature Bakes, Technical Challenges and Showstoppers.

Last year's series saw 20-year-old Edinburgh accounting and finance student Peter Sawkins take the crown.
