Lorraine Kelly made her team do some behind the scenes fact checking on Tuesday as she 'refused to believe' Sam Neill's age, after the Jurassic Park actor joined her for an interview on her ITV show.
Sam, whose illustrious career has seen him appear in the world famous dinosaur movies and more recently in hit BBC drama Peaky Blinders, joined the presenter to talk about his new memoir, Did I Ever Tell You This? The New Zealand born star joined Lorraine via video call from Australia's Gold Coast.
Sam, now 75, was quick to talk about his cancer scare last year, giving the encouraging news that he'd been in remission for eight months now and telling Lorraine: "I'm in tip top health and I'm starting work next week and all is good."
Quizzing Sam on his "extraordinary life," Lorraine asked Sam is his cancer diagnosis was the 'catalyst; for his autobiography, as he told her: "I had to go for chemotherapy and I had nothing to do basically so I thought why not start writing it? It gave me something to think about. Suddenly I couldn't work, so I'd go into my study and write about what I felt about writing that day and after a while it started to accumulate and, after a few months, I thought maybe there's a book in this."
Revisiting highlights from his career to date with Lorraine, Sam mentioned Jurassic Park, with Lorraine and viewers at home aghast to find out that the first film was released 30 years ago.
After Sam's appearance, Lorraine was joined by another A-lister, Paris Hilton, in the studio, before regular contributor Vogue Williams led a fashion segment.
And it was at the end of the spring looks catwalk that Lorraine drew attention to Sam's age, telling Vogue: "You know we had Sam Neill on earlier? He is, believe it or not....he's 75-years-old!"
As Vogue replied: "That's insane isn't it?" Lorraine quipped: "We had to look it up five times! We cannot believe that he is 75; he looks brilliant!"
