Who is Matt Stokoe in Hunt for Raoul Moat? Lead actor is from Durham and has famous other half

He will soon be seen on screen in what looks set to be one of ITV's biggest dramas this year and The Hunt for Raoul Moat lead actor Matt Stokoe isn't the only TV star in his house, as he also has a famous fiancée.

Durham born actor Matt, who has been seen in the likes of Bodyguard, The Musketeers and Grace, has taken on the difficult task of playing killer Moat in the small screen reliving of his crimes, which saw him shoot and injure ex girlfriend Samantha Stobbart and kill her new boyfriend Christopher Brown; before going on the run and blinding PC David Rathband, firing at at the police officer while he was in a patrol car on the outskirts of Newcastle.

The real life search for Moat played out in the summer of 2010, with it coming to end as Moat shot himself, dying from his injuries, after a tense stand off with police in the sleepy Northumberland village of Rothbury.

There was considerable backlash, especially from locals, when ITV announced three part series The Hunt for Raoul Moat in April 2022, as filming got underway in Yorkshire and, while a start date for the true crime drama is still be confirmed, the identity of its cast has been made public.

And it's 34-year-old Matt who will play Moat, with another TV drama star, Inspector George Gently's Lee Ingelby playing Neil Adamson, the police chief who led the investigation nearly 13 years ago.

While he has growing number of TV credits in his own right, Matt is also the fiance of Sophie Rundle, well known for her roles in Peaky Blinders and Gentleman Jack.

Giving a rare public insight into their four year relationship at the end of last year, Sophie shared a photo of Matt on Instagram and wrote: "Can highly recommend falling in love with your best friend, making a nice baby, exhausting yourselves looking after the baby, and then (with the help of very kind grandparents) escaping to the city for a night."

Sophie added: "We drank mulled cider as we walked along the river (everyone so young! So loud! Were we ever them?!) mooned around an art gallery (only stop at the pictures you like and never mind what you’re supposed to like is my advice), got a bit lost, ate cheeseburgers and still managed to be in bed by half nine. God it was perfect"
