ITV entertainment show Dancing on Ice, hosted by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, has been hit with a raft of complaints after introducing a dance with a breaking news announcement. Many viewers found the scenes "rude" and in "poor taste".
To introduce Coronation Street's Mollie Gallagher's Ghostbusters-inspired dance the show used a breaking news announcement from ITV news. Many viewers thought the breaking news announcement was real, in light of recent events including the tragic case of missing mum Nicola Bulley, and thought it was insensitive to use a breaking news announcement as BirminghamLive reported.
One person said: "Not sure #dancingonice that the Breaking News segment was in good taste with everything going on" and another added: "I did not like that dance at all… the news interruption wasn’t funny i didn’t think it was funny I thought it was rather rude of them regarding a serious case".
A third said: "#DancingOnIce no one right now needs #BreakingNews. For anyone currently just having #DoI in the background…guaranteed you all jumped a bit. Take a breath. For all the tragic, sad and painful news right now #BeKind value and show your loved ones you care." And another viewer added: "The ITV news interruption was in very bad taste given what is going on in the news."
On person said: "funny joke @ITV?? yeh let’s put a breaking news in the middle of the show even though there’s some awful stories in the news atm." Elsewhere in the episode viewers were not impressed when The Wanted band member, Jay McGuinness, called host Holly Willoughby "a perv" during an interview.
The This Morning host was speaking to the singer and former Strictly Come Dancing champ about his bandmate, Siva Kaneswaran's performance and his "hip action" on the ice. "He keeps saying he can't dance, but we all saw those hips tonight," said Holly.
“You perv”, replied Jay, who seemed a bit taken aback by the question and went on to say he was "really proud" of his bandmate. You can keep up to date with the latest TV and showbiz news by signing up to the newsletter here.
