Ben Shephard attempted to 'asset his authority' over Good Morning Britain co-host Kate Garraway, as he ordered her to 'stop talking' live on air, as cameras rolled on Friday's show. And the outburst from the usually mild mannered presenter, came just a day after he posted an emotional tribute to Kate on Instagram.
Much to the delight of many ITV viewers, Tipping Point star Ben teamed up with Kate for the second day in a row, as the breakfast programme aired its fifth and final episode of a busy week. During the three hour live broadcast, the two anchors got into a discussion about a remark made by contestant Whitney Adebayo on Love Island that she didn't want 'an insecure man.'
Taking that as the springboard for a studio debate, Ben asked people tuning inn from home: Do you agree? Do women prefer a dominant man?” Giving her thoughts, Kate quizzed I guess also, it’s what do we mean by dominant?” before urging viewers to get in touch with the show with their opinions on the matter.

Pondering his stance on the subject, Ben then remarked said: “I’m not saying anything,” as Kate laughed: “No, don’t be dominant with me." “I’m the absolute opposite of all those things, you know that,” Ben added, prompting GMB colleague Alex Beresford to quip: I just love the way Ben starts to get smaller and smaller.”
Trying to wind Ben up, Kate then commented: "The viewers might want you to be more dominant, especially with me I suspect" and, taking his cue from that,. Ben then barked: "Stop talking!" before then returning to his usual friendly self.
Ben's mock rage at Kate came after he posted a touching tribute to her, on the occasion of her being awarded an MBE. Sharing a montage of photos of them on Instagram, he wrote: It was so so special to see her Derek, Bill and Darcy along with her amazing parents altogether for such a special occasion. She never fails to inspire and infuriate me in equal measure and I wouldn’t have it any other way!!"
Ben added: "Can’t tell you how proud I was to see my friend honoured like this to be surrounded by all there family friends and colleagues. Keep being you Kate - there is no one like you (thank goodness!!!)"
