ITV Next Level Chef's Gordon Ramsay says sixth child 'could' be on the way and the time he almost died while filming

Starring in his new ITV1 show Next Level Chef, Gordon Ramsay will be appearing alongside Paul Ainsworth and Nyesha Arrington, as he puts professional and amateur chefs through their paces. You can read everything you need to know about the show here. And while appearing on Heart Radio recently, to promote the show Gordon revealed he could be having another child.

The 56-year-old is married to broadcaster Tana and they currently have five children, including Tilly Ramsay who took part in the 2021 series of Strictly Come Dancing. Speaking to Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston he hinted at another child.

He said: “Last time I looked there were five, there could be one more on the way...Tanya’s jeans aren’t fitting her, she would love one more baby and I’m like no, no, no,". To which host Amanda asked: "Is it Christmas or is it a baby?"

"Do you know what, I don’t know yet. I’ll double-check when I get back. I’m going to Boots on the way back from here and I’ll double check," Gordon replied, prompting many to believe Gordon and Tana could be adding to the Ramsay brood.

The explosively sweary TV chef has had a few dramatic experiences over the years, on and off screen - and was blasted during the pandemic after laying off staff and advising people to stay at home after traveling to a second home in Cornwall.

But in 2008 Gordon suffered perhaps his most dramatic career moment so far, taking a tumble off a cliff in Iceland, he experienced the near-death moment while filming for The F-Word, which ran for five series from 2005.

Gordon was in Iceland's Westman Islands filming a puffin hunting segment when he lost his footing and fell during a descent of an 85-metre cliff and landing in the icy water below. After being submerged for over 45 seconds Gordon was rescued by his film crew who threw him a rope after he kicked off his heavy boots and waterproof clothing to swim to the surface.

He told The Sun: "I thought I was a goner...I remember thinking, 'Oh f***.' My boots and my waterproofs were dragging me down. I'm an extremely good swimmer, but I couldn't get to the surface. I was panicking and my lungs were filling with water."

Gordon was born in Scotland and did not have an easy childhood, growing up with an acholic father who abused and neglected his children. The chef originally wanted to become a footballer however was marred by injury and instead found a career in cooking.

The celebrity chef has faced many controversies during his career including making some of his staff redundant during the coronavirus pandemic, despite a personal net income which was estimated to be worth 63 million dollars by Forbes in 2019, offending Cornish people in 2022 when he said he couldn't stand Cornish people despite having three houses in the county and rumours of a seven-year affair when in 2008 Sarah Symonds claimed she had been in secret, on-off relationship with Gordon for seven years.

Next Level Chef airs Wednesdays on ITV at 9pm. Catch up on ITVX.
