ITV Malpractice viewers flock to comment as they face same issue with drama opener

Malpractice viewers were left flocking to question whether it was just them facing issues as they tuned in to watch ITV's latest series The new medical drama, which started on Sunday night (April 23), follows the aftermath of a 'nightmare' A&E shift.

In the opening episode, viewers saw doctor Lucinda Edwards face the death of opioid overdose patient, Edith Owusu. Unable to be in two places at one time, she had to leave the tragic patient in the hands of her trainee. But when Edith died, an investigation was subsequently launched.

As the series plays out, suspicion arises as medical investigators examine Dr Edwards' behaviour that fateful night. Meanwhile, as the pressure mounts, her personal life starts to unravel and her relationship with her husband begins to crack.

But although many viewers were fully invested in the opening episode of the new Sunday night drama, others were left confused as they were unable to hear the discussions that were being had as the investigation into what happened began.

One tweeted: "Good but had to put subtitles on very muffled / mumbling #Malpractice." Another said: "This looks good - is anyone else struggling to understand the dialogue?"

But that wasn't the only issue some of those tuning in faced. A viewer shared: "I do like this new #Malpractice show on itv but the amount of inaccuracies is driving me mental." Another complained: "No way on gods earth , if this doctor on #Malpractice was real she would be suspended on full pay pending investigation not still be allowed to work."

Despite some niggles, some viewers decided to binge the series after the first episode aired after they were left hooked by the drama. One said: "#Malpractice you got me hooked. It’s like line of duty meets casualty." Another shared: "Watched the first episode of #Malpractice ...wow...heart was in my mouth through most of it!!! @PhilipBarantini has done it again. Absolutely brilliant ,gona have to binge the whole lot now!!"

Malpractice has been written by Grace Ofori-Attah, who was a doctor for 15 years, and has previously said the drama aims to highlight the work pressures medical professionals face. It will also challenge the stereotypes of addiction.

She told ITV: "While Malpractice is set in A&E to reflect what was probably the most difficult junior doctor rotation I’ve ever done, the underlying story is really one about psychiatry, mental health, addiction and how that is pervasive. Not just in medicine but in wider society."
