ITV Love Island teases summer return date as Iain Stirling takes a swipe at rival dating shows

ITV has excited Love Island fans after confirming the show will return very soon. There has been much speculation around the hit dating show's start date as it has launched in June in previous years - and now host Iain Stirling has revealed it will make its comeback next month.

Since it first began back in June 2015, Love Island has amassed millions of viewers who watch the contestants fall in love whilst living together in an isolated villa in Majorca. Spanning from six to eight weeks long, the Islanders live in the villa with no connection to the outside world and their fate often lies in the viewers' hands.

In recent years Love Island been a huge platform for influencers and reality stars, with celebrities such as Molly-Mae Hague, Tommy Fury, Dani Dyer and Kem Cetinay seeing their careers take off after appearing on the show. It has also been successful in matchmaking with some Islanders who were once 'coupled up' on the show still together, and some who are now married with babies.

On Saturday morning (May 14) Love Island's social media pages shared a 'public service announcement' signed from the 'OGs of love', which appeared to take a swipe at rival dating shows. Since Love Island aired, there have been other reality love competitions that have been a hit with viewers such as Netflix's Too Hot to Handle, Love Is Blind and Channel 4's Celebs Go Dating.

During the teaser trailer, which announced the shows return date, Iain Stirling appeared to poke fun at the other shows that have recently taken the limelight.

In the video, which was shared to Love Island's 3.3 million Instagram followers, Iain said: "Adios blind dates, au revoir romantic weekends away, that's right the OGs of love are here letting you know that this summer, love is ours.

"224 islanders have walked through the villa doors in classic Love Island slow mo, but don't take it from me, our bromances, babies and brides can tell you why we are number one. So get ready because this summer love isn't blind, it's neon and we can deffo handle the heat, we've got a firepit mate.

"Love we own it. Love Island, this June, on ITV2 and ITV Hub."

A date has not yet been announced for the show's return but it is expected to be on Monday, June 6 following the pattern from previous years.
