ITV Love Island's Iain Stirling annoys some viewers over 'pony' dig

It's not just the Islanders causing a stir as the voice of Love Island has found himself in a bit of bother with viewers. Iain Stirling is never seen but always heard during every episode of the ITV2 dating show as he commentates on all the latest goings-on in the famous villa.

And Monday night's show was no different as fans of the programme tuned in to see another recoupling and the teasing of two new bombshells - taking the current total up six in the space of a week of the new series beginning.

Towards the end of the episode Iain, 34, was referencing Gemma Owen's love of horses when he name-dropped her famous dad, former Liverpool and Manchester United footballer Michael Owen. "Luca's grabbed Gemma for a catch up," he said as it came after the pair coupled up for a second time.

"Gemma was telling me today that she once joined a pony club. Coincidently her dad Michael once joined a pony club...it's called Newcastle United." And fans of the former footballer, or actually more fans of the Magpies, took issue with his comment and were quick to have their say on social media.

@PoisonedApple14 tweeted: "Wow a dig @NUFC for no reason. FML #LoveIsland." @laurenamos__ said: "Errrrr I think @IainDoesJokes has just p****d off a lot of Newcastle fans #LoveIsland." @petern280 fumed: "Eff off @IainDoesJokes Proper rubbish joke mate! At least try and do what you’ve got in your Twitter name #loveisland."

@LFCPortelli commented: "NAH THAT WAS A VIO FROM THE COMMENTATOR. HES SENDING FOR NEWCASTLE #LoveIsland." @kieraandixon asked: "@IainDoesJokes less of the pony club remark about Newcastle please #LoveIsland." @Clinton_Forde added: "Low blow @IainDoesJokes #LoveIsland #NUFC."

And it's not the first time the Scottish narrator has got himself into a bit of bother during the first week of the hit series. It came at the stat of show one as a glimpses of this year's Love Island contestants was played out.

Iain was then heard saying: "Buckle up Britain because the OG dating show is back." And it didn't go unnoticed by disgruntled Love Island viewers. @beth__95 tweeted: "OG dating show? I’m sorry #LoveIsland but that credential has to go to Blind Date." @hayleydevlinx commented: "Can I just say I think it’s bold of #LoveIsland to call itself the OG dating show… We had Blind Date. Cila would be fuming."
