Love Island was back on our screens on Thursday night, which saw the arrival of the latest bombshell 22-year-old footballer Scott Van Der Sluis who got his first candlelit romantic date with Jess Harding following her winning the latest challenge in the villa.
Earlier on however emotions were running high as Mehdi told Whitney he "didn't want to be part of this" referencing the drama unfolding from her and fellow contestant Catherine confronting Jess about her comments on Molly, 22, previously calling her fake.
"I feel like you felt some kind of way about Molly and you didn't choose her in the challenge," Catherine said as she and Whitney confronted her about not speaking up on her thoughts on the musical theatre performer to her face when the opportunity arose.
Jess defended herself as she said anything she said was a joke and "I didn't think she's two-faced at all" as she says she didn't feel the situation between Molly and Mitchel was fair on him.
She then stormed off from her chat with Whitney and Catherine in tears, admitting she "had never been confronted like that before," however the girls all later brushed the situation aside as it didn't come to much.
But it didn't stop Whitney's partner Mehdi weighing into the girls drama, telling her: "If I hear you or Catherine made her cry I am going to be very upset," as he said he "wouldn't want to be with someone like that."
Whitney was understandably taken aback by his comments. "I didn't say anything nasty, I didnt cuss or anything at her at all I don't understand, the only thing he took from that is I made Jess cry," she said.
Later on, Whitney told Mehdi: "You are looking at me like an egg. We had a conversation between the girls and it shouldn't be a domino effect to what we have going on."
"I don't want my girl in drama, what's wrong with that?" Mehdi responded. "If this is what you are I don't want it. Next time you make someone cry I will come to you directly."
It wasn't until Jess pulled Mehdi aside and explained he had been blowing the situation out of proportion and encouraged him to apologise to Whitney that he realised he had perhaps overreacted.
And viewers at home were also quick to note the bizarre switch in his behaviour, despite saying when he entered the villa he wanted a "strong and sassy girl who knows what she wants."
One person wrote: "mehdi only saw jess starting to cry then assumed whitney beat her or something #loveisland," whilst someone else added: "Mehdi knowing nothing about the context of the situation but trying to have a go at Whitney #loveisland."
"btw mehdi you’re putting yourself into unnecessary drama #loveisland," added another fan of the show as they took to Twitter.
Another quipped: "A red flag is you being in women’s business Mehdi #Loveisland," whilst someone else penned: "nah this is Mehdi making himself believe he got dragged into the drama: #Loveisland."
Love Island continues on ITV2 and ITVX each weeknight at 9pm.
