Love Island fans have been left asking 'how' as they were left floored by a 'wicked plot twist'. During Wednesday night's episode (March 1), Olivia Hawkins and Maxwell Samuda were dumped from the Love Island villa.
The couple discovered they were at risk of leaving the ITV2 reality show after landing in the bottom four following a public vote for the most compatible couple. Host Maya Jama made a sensational return to South Africa to deliver the surprise news as the contestants enjoyed a day out at the beach club.
The 28-year-old TV and radio star revealed the couples with the fewest votes were at risk from being dumped from the island before announcing that Shaq Muhammad and Tanya Manhenga, Claudia Fogarty and Keanan Brand, and Rosie Seabrook and Casey O’Gorman were all in the bottom four.

But it was Olivia and Maxwell who were sent packing. Original contestant Olivia said of her dumping: "Obviously it is sad to leave these guys but I found what I came looking for, so I’m happy to be leaving with him."
However, during the dramatic dumping, Maya also dropped the bombshell that Olivia and Maxwell would be deciding which other couple from the bottom four would be exiting the villa with them. She said: "Olivia and Maxwell are not the only ones leaving. Two more islanders will also be dumped tonight. That decision is not down to the public or your fellow islanders, it’s actually down to you, Olivia and Maxwell."
And as Love Island viewers' jaws dropped at the twist, they were also left pretty miffed that the decision as to who else leaves wasn't based on their votes. @u_chei said: "How can they let 'bad vibes' Olivia choose who to dump??" @tracy_cocina wrote: "Imagine giving Liv the power she’s been craving. The ultimate, wicked plot twist there."
@blessed.quest posted: "Why give Olivia that kind of power before she leaves?!" @mariaaawbu commented: "I can not believe the power they’ve given Olivia. I’m actually triggered." @Spocaccino tweeted: "WHY WOULD THE PRODUCERS GIVE OLIVIA POWER!?!? I hate it here #loveisland." @michaelamsav added: "Nah, not gonna lie never reported to ofcom about anything but I am tonight. Olivia gets voted off but gets to decide? How is that fair? #loveIsland."
However, confusion has been sparked following Love Island's social media post following the latest twist. Alongside photos of all the couples on Instagram, the caption read: "Two more Islanders will be dumped from the Island, and their fate is in Olivia and Maxwell's hands... #LoveIsland." And it has left viewers' wondering if Olivia and Maxwell will be able to choose from ANY of the couples and not just the other three with the fewest votes.
