Sharing the news on Twitter, the ITV programme said: "Here's your first hot date of the summer #LoveIsland is back Monday 6th June on @itv2 and @itvhub!" The post was accompanied with a video graphic confirming the 9pm programming time along with the words "love is ours" and "we own it".

@DollyDazzle agreed: "I cannot wait even as an oldie Love Island makes my summer fun." @JimmyJab_ said added: "This announces the start of summer!"

Although not everyone was pleased with the announcement of the exact date. "Why do you always air it the first day back of school, why not the whole week off we have," @TvBobz07 questioned.

The location of the new villa is still unconfirmed although there are reports that the contestants are set to move into a £2.57m villa in Majorca that is still undergoing work, alleges The Sun. Love Island's old villa in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar was sold for £3m after hosting the Islanders for five years.

So far the line up for the eighth series of the programme has not been publicly announced although more rumours have been circulating in the press about new contestants. Individuals who have been rumoured to appear by Huffington Post include a boxer, a brother of a previous contestant, a student and an actress.

The show has already announced major changes coming to this series brought to life through its partnership with eBay that will see contestants required to wear secondhand clothing. eBay UK has enlisted the help of celebrity stylist and secondhand aficionado, Amy Bannerman, to style this year’s Islanders, who has previously worked with include Dua Lipa, Rita Ora, Sophie Turner, Jonathan Van Ness and Lena Dunham.

Love Island's previous sponsors include Missguided and ISAWITFIRST, demonstrating a conscious decision to move away from supporting the fast fashion industry. Many people have praised the show for promoting more sustainable fashion businesses.

The latest season of Love Island comes to ITV2 on June 9 at 9pm
