ITV Lorraine viewers blast 'dangerous' and 'weird' financial advice for couples amid price hikes

ITV Lorraine viewers were up in arms this morning over a "dangerous" message that couples with separate bank accounts are "cheating" on each other.

Married At First Sight UK host Paul Carrick Brunson, who is also a business columnist, was on the show to talk about money and relationships.

The show was hosted by R anvir Singh today, who returned to screens for the first time this week following a major bout of hayfever.

Paul was explaining to Ranvir his theory that people who keep their financial status secret from their other half are "literally" being unfaithful.

A shocked Ranvir wasn't in agreement at first, after Paul said: "Couples should be talking, at least once a month, about money.

"Separate bank accounts mean two things, one that people are hiding money and it's getaway money, and two that this is unfaithful, it's literally cheating."

Ranvir replied: "I come from the generation of women that don't want to be trapped like that, it's dangerous, it is getaway money."

Paul clarified his point, by saying he didn't mean couples should have just separate accounts, but have them as well as their own personal accounts.

He added: "It's about unifying and talking about goals.

"If you're both adding money, you're enriched, if you're both spending, you're impacted.

"If you have a joint account it means a greater understanding and the key to a successful relationship is communication and that’s what a joint account is."

Ranvir admitted she was coming round to his argument and could see what he was saying had some merit, though talking about money makes her "uncomfy".

After she asked if the MAFSUK star had any more ideas for couples who may face issues as prices across the UK continue to hike, Paul replied: "The key is continue to talk, share feelings with partner, share, if u want a higher quality life, it's a higher quality relationship."

But viewers were not impressed, branding the advice "weird and dangerous".

One said: "That was a weird take on independence in relationships earlier. Totally with @ranvir01 on this one! #lorraine "

One added: " @lorraine Joint bank account. Is this idiot relationship so called expert pulling the most ridiculous April fool!!"

Another said: "I’m used to hearing s**** spouted on #Lorraine each day but the so called relationship expert claiming we need to have a joint account is just on another level. Dangerous nonsense…"

And one said: "you could see Ranvir was like “is this guy forreal?” #Lorraine "

One added: "this guy is speaking absolute garbage. you should never have a joint account with your partner, i learnt that the hard way. what ever YOU earn should only be yours to spend because YOU worked for it. #Lorraine "
