ITV I'm a Celebrity's Boy George says Ant and Dec begged him to do show as he admits sabotaging himself

Boy George feels he's already sabotaged himself - by ruining his I'm A Celebrity outfit off air has revealed Ant and Dec begged him to do the show.

The 80s pop star is set to enter the jungle when it returns to ITV this Sunday. His promo picture for the show features the infamous camp uniform, with a slight alteration with red dots added to the top by the singer himself.

The Karma Chameleon admits he wasn't given permission to make the edit and hopes he may get a chance to wear that version in the show - or he'll be finding a way to customise it from inside the jungle.

It comes singer says he will give the show his all as he admitted he is being well paid for his I'm A Celebrity stint. George, 61, is said to be picking up £500,000 for his time in camp.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press about his camp 'uniform', he said: "The thing is, I wasn't given permission to do anything to the clothes. I mean, they sent them over to kind of see wherever they fitted me.

"And of course, I'm a hat guy. As soon as I saw the hat, Oh, it's too small. So I just took a pair of scissors to it and cut it up and then I thought they're gonna go mad, but they seem to like it. I can't promise that I will be wearing it in there."

Boy George and his other campmates are currently in isolation ahead of the show starting on Sunday evening.

The singer, full name George Alan O'Dowd, also spoke about how show hosts Ant and Dec personally played a crucial part in persuading him to sign up for the series.

The pair planted the idea in his head when they worked together but then also had further chats to lure him in.

George said: "I think I was asked a couple of times in the past. Then I went on Saturday Night Takeaway to do that a while back, I feel like I was set up by Ant and Dec.

"They said to me, what would make you do it and I said, 'if you did like a vegan or vegetarian one', And they said we can, and I thought 'oh s**t'.

It actually took a while because I talked about it with my manager, and then we stopped talking about it and I said 'oh I'm not doing it'.

"And then I spoke to Ant and Dec – and you know how charming they are – I spoke to them, and they just encouraged me you know, as they do."
