In a first look at I’m A Celebrity… South Africa on Tuesday, May 9, the camp are discussing their hygiene issues with each other. At one point in the episode, Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan admits that she feels “grubby”.
The 32-year-old actress, who originally appeared on the ITV show in 2012, tells the others: “I’ve not washed my face for two weeks, I’ve never seen so many blackheads on my nose! I feel so grubby.” In a moment of desperation, she turns to singer and TV presenter Myleene Klass for help.
Helen asks Myleene if she’ll squeeze her blackheads and the former Hear’Say star replies: “I am no dermatologist but I’ll give anything a go,” as she dons surgical gloves. Carol Vorderman watches on and confesses: “It’s quite satisfying.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Ant and Dec arrive in camp with an update for the remaining celebrities, warning that time is running out to compete for the Legend title. The presenting duo tell the group: “We’re here to inform you the race to the final starts here because we’ve got another survival trial.” Who do you think will win the series? Let us know in the comments.
Two more celebrities are set to leave camp after the second survival trial. Their exit comes following Coronation Street star Andy Whyment and Made in Chelsea’s Georgia ‘Toff’ Toffolo’s departure from camp. Janice Dickinson was also forced to leave camp on Monday, May 8 after an injury - read more about that here.
Reflecting on his time on the show, Andy said: “I’ve got to be honest, I found it tougher than I did in Australia. Simply for the reason that I went into a different camp to start with for two nights. It took me and Myleene four hours to do the fire on the first night - it was a nightmare! We knew it was long, we thought about two and a half hours, but when we went to do the trial the next day, Ant and Dec said it was actually four hours. You can imagine how we were both feeling. That’s an I’m A Celebrity record! Then Myleene beat me in the trial so it was rice and beans for me with Shaun and Tuffers [Phil].”
Georgia said: “I loved it. I think every time I go into that camp I sort of transform into this little warrior. Whereas on the outside, I walk around looking quite weak. But I just love it. I don't mind smelling. I don't mind the lack of food. I just find such contentment in there. I think it’s because life in the outside world, for all of us, we're so privileged, and we have so many things. And in there it’s simple things that make you happy. Literally having to go and get water and boiling it so that we can drink it. It's stripping it back to basics so that you find the joy in life again. And I just think to be able to do it twice, it’s just nuts. I can’t believe I got asked back, it’s amazing.”
And Janice said: "My experience in camp on the complete whole was transformation. I feel that some epiphany came over me after I ate that food trial. That I was able to do it for other people instead of doing it for myself. I wasn’t doing it for the sake of 'Janice is winning a trial', it really was to put food on the table for the other camp mates. That’s why I was finally able to see the glory of these trials."
