ITV Good Morning Britain viewers say 'what a weird time' as they fume 'grow up' over Valentine's debate

Good Morning Britain viewers weren't quite sure what they were watching as they tuned in to the latest show. The ITV news programme was on air on Tuesday (February 14) with Ranvir Singh back at the helm but after hosting alongside Robert Rinder on Monday, she was joined by Ed Balls.

And as it was Valentine's Day, there was lots of chatter about the annual day of love and at one point in the show, Ranvir and Ed were joined by two guests with opposing opinions to debate whether Valentine's Day cards should be banned at work. GMB offered up the conversation after a new survey revealed nearly half think it's inappropriate to flirt in the office, despite 40 per cent confessing to a workplace romance.

Ed argued: "If Ranvir said it fine but if it was anonymous and I didn't know who was saying it, I'd be looking around this studio thinking who is sending me these private love messages. You can imagine that feeling a bit creepy and maybe a bit intimidating."

While Ranvir suggested Valentine's Day was a 'minefield' in the workplace and that maybe we should 'have a little rule that we just don't do it'. But sex and relationship psychotherapist Emiliana Silvestri argued that she would be suggesting people 'turn off their natural extinct'.

"We have such a thing as a mating call... To turn off a natural instinct if you see someone you've got good energy is, I think, really quite problematic," she said. "We're wired for connection as human beings. We're wired for touch and cuddles." But relationship expert Fahima Mohammed didn't agree that gifting someone at work on Valentine's Day was a good idea.

But GMB viewers weren't quite sure about the debate. @sehsmiffy tweeted: "Literally the earth is being blown up, visited by aliens and falling out its own ass and were here arguing about sending valentines cards , what a fucking weird time we live in #gmb." @woolenhattwitch said: "Lol. Sick of everyone trying to cancel stuff. This debate is rediculous. One woman is offended by recieving valentine's cards. Get a grip #valentines #gmb @GMB."

@specsappeal71 posted: "#gmb sending a valentines card to a work colleague? Are you at school? Are you five years old?" @KarenlovesGB echoed: "Valentine Day cards belong in the playground imo Not the workplace. Grow up. Who needs one day to show their feelings? #gmb." @MarcWilcox13 added: "Arguing about whether Valentine’s Day cards should be sent at work or not. What a sad sad world we live in #GMB."

Ed, however, kicked off the show by showing his appreciation for his co-host - by serenading her. GMB shared a clip of Ed singing to Ranvir on social media alongside the message: "What a way to start Valentine's Day." In the video, Ed is seen singing to his co-star to which she replied: "You conduct orchestras, you bake, this morning you serenaded me. We know you're a very talented man."
