Martin Lewis appeared on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday to host the early morning show alongside Kate Garraway. The Money Saving Expert has made several appearances on the ITV news programme this year to offer his best financial advice amid the cost of living crisis.
The money-saving expert, 50, joined Kate, who usually hosts the show on Thursdays and Fridays, but has stepped in to cover Susanna Reid's slots over the Christmas period. During the festivities, Kate is said to be working alongside different male co-stars including Richard Madeley, Ed Balls, Adil Ray and her most familiar co presenter Ben Shephard.
During today's show (December 14), Martin and Kate discussed the union strikes and inflation as they were joined by different guests. But things appeared to get heated throughout the programme as the pair had several moments of talking over one another.
In one segment, where the hosts were joined by Kevin Maguire and Andrew Pierce, where the presenters seemed to enter a 'shouting match'.
Whilst discussing the upcoming nurses strike, with the first strike date in place for tomorrow (December 15) the pair appeared to battle for their say.
Martin explained: "It is not an independent review body that starts from an open premise that says 'how much should nurses get if we are looking on a basis of equity or fairness, it is an independent pay process based on how much the government can spend, the impact on inflation and what nurses pay should be.
"You have to look at the terms of reference, so it is an independent decision based on reference period that is set by the government."
But before the expert had finished his explanation, Kate cut in to say: "I think it starts with a letter from the government that says please look at pay and as I understand it, it says this is what we can afford," all whilst Martin tried to chip back in.
And that wasn't the only time that the presenters seemed to fight for the last word, as in the same segment, Kate appeared agitated as she jumped in and said: "Sorry Martin but I haven't even got to the point yet," whilst they continued to speak over each other.
Viewers were quick to point out the issue as they took to Twitter to raise complaints and referred to it as a "shouting match".
@winmaryh tweeted: "please will Kate and Martin stop talking over each other ,it is so annoying. Both want to be heard."
@TaniaC10 wrote: "Not sure about the Mick Lynch interview yesterday but this discussion with Andrew, Kevin, Kate and Martin is a shouting match disaster. stop talking over each other."
@SharonMccalla2 added: "Why doesn’t Kate let Martin speak! He’s the expert and explains things a lot better."
Some viewers then made a demand to ITV as they suggested the pair shouldn't host together again whilst praising Martin for his presenting flair.
@Gary12s tweeted: "Please can we have Martin Lewis and Ed Balls as main presenters and drop Richard, Kate, Ranvir and Adil they are just so irritating. I spend more time watching BBC now when they are on, try some new people in 2023."
@DJeddielang suggested: "Dear @GMB don't pair @kategarraway with @MartinSLewis she only works with @benshephard and Martin only works with @susannareid100."
@VintageFairFan said: "Ah! The difference in #GMB this morning. So lovely to have Martin Lewis on again. Someone who’s doing so much for ordinary people on this country."
@MrsMaudsley added: "Martin Lewis is the voice of reason amongst the screeching of the other 3."
At the end of the show Martin bid an emotional farewell to viewers as he wished them the 'best Christmas possible' and announced that he wouldn't be returning to the programme until march as he has his own show coming out in the new year.
