Good Morning Britain viewers were left a bit perplexed as they watched Will.I.Am's appearance on the show. The Black Eyed Peas star was on the ITV news programme to chat to Susanna Reid and Ed Balls about his latest projects on Tuesday (September 27).
Will.I.Am was on hand to promote his new single with his hitmaking group and discuss their upcoming album as well as chat about being a coach on The Voice UK, with the hosts pointing out it's his tenth year on the ITV show which returned to screens earlier this month.
Appearing live via video link from Los Angeles, Will said it was a "blessing" to have been a part of the singing competition for a decade. "This season is jam-packed with awesome talent," he added taking to the conversation back to business, prompting Susanna to ask about a new feature on The Voice UK this year.
The knockout stage has been ditched from the competition in place of the 'callbacks' which sees the contestant fight for their place in a more intimate setting where they can see exactly what their competitors have done. But Ed asked Will if it was like judges houses on the currently defunct ITV show, The X Factor.
"What did you say? The what factor?" the global superstar cheekily quipped. As the hosts laughed Will added: "Just kidding," before laughing himself. "Is that the show that dare not speak its name," Susanna commented but Will started to praise The X Factor's boss Simon Cowell.
"He's awesome, but this is The Voice UK star we're talking about right now," he added. But Ed didn't let it go and replied: "We have former X Factor star Fleur East on Strictly at the moment..." But Susanna suggested the hit dance contest may not want to be spoken about as it rivals The Voice on a Saturday night.
"You spoke another show that's on a different network," Will replied as Susanna laughed; "We get the message loud and clear." But the 51-year-old presenter wanted to clarify: "We're all friends here. Some of us have been on other networks so we're all one big happy broadcasting family."
She then moved the conversation along to ask Will about attending Britney Spears' wedding over the summer which led to the producer heaping praise on the pop star's new husband, Sam Asghari. And before they wrapped up the chat, the hosts asked Will about the death of the Queen after he said the late monarch reminded him of his own grandmother.
"What did that mean to you when you heard the news of her death," Susanna asked. Will paused before saying: "I thought of your beautiful country, the blow that it was going to take on the country itself. She was a dynamic, shining light. She inspired so many folks and yeah, it was a heavy blow.
"She did remind me of my grandma and that era, that type of female. That Queen, that nurturer, mother, guiding light for every family. She reminded me of that of my grandma and the beautiful spirit." Susanna and Will both appeared slightly emotional by the response but the presenter soon had to pick up for Ed who struggled to finish his sentence.
And the interview caught the attention of GMB viewers. @Alex_Humphries tweeted: "Some of those questions to Will. I. am were just utterly ridiculous. Who on earth wrote those? #GMB." @Mofoman360 shared: "#GMB Ed Balls just can’t interview celebrities it gets very awkward sometimes susanna just had to save him there."
@blahblah6784849 asked: "Did they just ask Will.i.am about The Queen? He had no idea what to say on the spot #GMB."
