Ed Balls has proven himself to be quite the Love Island fan during his recent stint on Good Morning Britain. The former Labour politician has been co-hosting the ITV news programme for a number of weeks alongside Susanna Reid.
But with the show's usual presenter now on her summer break, Ed has been back at the helm alongside Ranvir Singh who has stepped into Susanna's shoes for the foreseeable. And Monday's show (July 18) was a scorcher as much of the news centred on the heatwave much of the country is currently experiencing.
There was, however, still time for the usual entertainment news and Richard Arnold was back to bring news on whether things are hotting up in the Love Island villa. Sunday night's episode of the ITV2 dating show saw the rest of Movie Night play out
During Friday's episode, Luca watched a clip of Gemma Owen insinuating her head could be turned by another boy and flirting with new boy Billy Brown in the kitchen. The latest trip to the villa then saw her feature in a separate “flirty” conversation with Billy in the clip titled Good Bill Hunting.
After watching the clip, Luca said: “I’m telling you now, I don’t even want to speak to her. "I’m f***ing fuming. I am not going f***ing near that bird mate. Bring me a f***ing bird in, watch me then flirt. Trust me when I say, if she wants to play it down to me I will f***ing explode. I can’t be with someone like that, sorry."
Pointing to his snake tattoo, Luca added: "See this tattoo on my chest, that’s what she is." After sharing a frosty silence in the corridor after movie night, Luca told Gemma: "I’m not happy" and "you were entertaining it" which Gemma vehemently denied and the pair appeared unable to solve the issue.
During Monday morning's GMB, Ed didn’t hold back his reaction as they discussed the couple's disagreement, after recently dropping the 'L' bomb to each other. "I thought in the first week or so, Gemma, Michael Owen’s daughter, had a bad start, but actually, I think she has really done well,’ Ed began. ‘Luca, last night, it was disastrous. What was he doing?’
He went on: "They’re on a show called Love Island, right? They’re supposed to flirt with each other. Luca and Gemma have been getting on really well, they were separated in different villas. Gemma, as far as I can see, had a pretty mild conversation with Billy, and Luca last night was 'I’ve been betrayed, no bird treats me like that'. It was awful!"
His comments come after Sunday's episode saw Luca's loved ones posted some of the abusive messages directed at the 2022 Love Island star on Instagram. His sister, who has been running his social accounts wrote : "Please, please, please stop messaging abuse. Luca can’t even see it…
"The people that love him most can. I’ve just been sick from crying so much at the death threats (an hour on from that last story). How can people be so inhumane."
Ed, however, was soon being 'set up' with another islander live on air. Andi Peters was hosting the competition part of the show live from Brighton beach alongside Jay Younger. Taking hs opportunity, Andi, 51, said: "So the thing is Ranvir, I don't know if you watch Love Island but I know that Ed watches Love Island.
"Ed, Jay is here - I'll ask the question you want asked Ed: 'What's Paige [Thorne] really like?'" Jay said in response: "Paige is lovely, she's really lovely" before the host jokingly asked: "Do you think she'd like Ed Balls? [He's very] suave, sophisticated."
The reality star chuckled laughed and replied: "Yeah, I think she might, you know. I think she might." Pleased with his match-making, Andi proudly said: "There you go Ed, don't say I didn't line it up for you."
