Ben Shephard was jokingly warned to 'get it right' as he spoke to Larry Lamb about his recent Gavin and Stacey reunion. The actor appeared on Good Morning Britain on Thursday (March 23) as he shows his support for Marie Curie's latest campaign following the death of his brother.
March 23 marks the charity's National Day of Reflection which they say is a unique day is an opportunity to remember our loved ones who've died, support people who are grieving, and connect with each other. Appearing live on GMB, Larry spoke movingly to Ben and Kate Garraway about the loss of his own brother, Wesley, who died from cancer in 2019.
Sharing his praise for the Marie Curie nurses who help them in Wesley's last days, Larry said; "They made it much easier for both of us. The people who were looking after him were sort of saying, 'Look, he wants you to come and talk to him,' because we'd had a big falling out. We hadn't really seen much of each other... so I was reluctant but in the end it was the best thing I could of done."
Larry added that they "became brothers again" and that he slept in the same room as him during his end of life care. "It was a really special experience instead of something that could have been not nice at all, with me staying down south and not going to see him."
The former EastEnders actor was also able to speak about his latest project with former co-star Alison Steadman, who fans know for playing Mick and Pam Shipman in Gavin and Stacey. They have reunited for a new UKTV series in which they complete a road trip from Billericay to Barry, which is where the characters in the beloved comedy show lived.
But Ben appeared to struggle and stumbled when sharing the title of the show thanks to the inclusion of Billericay, in his hometime of Essex, which prompted Larry to quip: "Get it right." He then went on to share: "UK Gold shows Gavin and Stacey a lot so they thought, why don't we do a show with the journey from Billericay to Barry Island, or Barry-bados as they call it."
Larry, 75, then teased: "I've got a very special guest in the car for [Alison], that's how it starts... It's a fascinating trip, with Alison and I reminiscing, kind of slipping in and out of [character as] Mick and Pam."
