ITV GMB's Kate Garraway gives health update on husband Derek Draper after hospital stay

Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway has given fans an update on her husband Derek Draper, after her recent health scare which landed him back in hospital.

Kate's hubby was rushed to A&E with sepsis last month as he continues to battle ongoing health issues after contracting Covid in 2020. As she presented GMB this morning (Thursday), Kate mentioned her husband's progress as she was joined by new presenter Paul Brand.

Kate's update came after a chat with rail union boss Mick Lynch amid the rail strikes enveloping the UK's train network. She told the RMT union boss of her own experiences with rail staff recently, amid ongoing staff shortages, but praised a continued high level of service, writes The Mirror.

Kate then said: "I spend pretty much all of my time on trains, or in hospital with Derek." Kate says her husband is now finally "back on the right side of it" ahead of her return to work on GMB and Smooth Radio after three weeks off.

Sharing an update with fans, she wrote: "Thank you so so much for all your messages of support - they really do mean the world to me & the whole family. "I have taken some time off @gmb, @smoothradio & @garrawaysgoodatuff in the last 3 weeks as Derek’s health took an unexpected & frightening turn for the worse that landed him back in intensive care & fighting for his life - again."

"Thanks to the amazing NHS teams & his own extraordinary life force & spirit Derek -please god - is back on the right side of it now and I'm so looking forward to seeing you all back on @gmb from 6 a.m tomorrow & @smoothradio - hopefully celebrating @lionesses #worldcup win!

"Love & see you in the morning!" Kate had stepped down from the ITV daytime show for three weeks to stay by Derek's side as she cared for him and their family.

Former political advisor Derek is the worst affected living Covid patient in the UK after spending 13 months in hospital. He first contracted the virus at the beginning of 2020. The dad-of-two returned home but has been unable to fully communicate, has issues with mobility and has struggled with major health problems.
