ITV ending Jeremy Clarkson’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? role following controversial Meghan remarks

ITV have confirmed the upcoming series of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? will be Jeremy Clarkson’s last as host.

The move follows controversial comments made by Clarkson in December about Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.

The 62-year-old faced a huge backlash after saying in a newspaper column that he “hated” the Duchess “on a cellular level” and that he wanted to see her “paraded naked through the streets”.

He later admitted that he had “rather put his foot in it” in a tweet before he and The Sun issued an apology for the column and it was removed after breaking records for the most IPSO complaints on a single article.

Confirming their decision to part ways with the broadcaster, ITV boss Carolyn McCall said the forthcoming season of the popular quiz show, which is now currently in production, will be his final series as host.

“We have a contract. We’re contracted to this [season], so we will do that. And then we have no future commitments,” McCall told The Mirror.

Reflecting on ITV’s “quick response” to Clarkson’s column, she added to the publication: “There was no dissent internally. We came out much quicker than anybody else, Amazon included.

“We just came out and said, ‘Yes, we do not endorse a single word that he said on that. And there’s no place for that on ITV.’ So we came out very quickly and just said, you know, that wasn’t on ITV. But we don’t endorse that in any way. And there’s no place for that on ITV.”
