ITV Emmerdale's Lisa Riley showered with support amid 'honest' post about grief

Emmerdale star Lisa Riley was quickly showered with love and support as she shared an open and honest post about grief. The actress, who is known for playing Mandy Dingle in the ITV soap, is no stranger to sharing her experience of loss following the death of her mum.

Lisa's mum, Cath, died in 2012 after battling cancer. Sharing a picture of her beloved mother on Instagram, the soap star shared how she is now working with the charity Sue Ryder, to support those and their loved ones struggling due to a cancer diagnosis.

Alongside the picture of Cath, Lisa wrote: "Opening up on the grief of losing her mum, Lisa wrote: “Over two-thirds (69%) of people have been scared or embarrassed to talk about their emotions whilst grieving. But it is important to remember that all emotions are valid. It’s okay to feel angry, guilty, frustrated or resentful following a bereavement and you don’t need to downplay or hide your emotions."

Commenting on her own experience of grief, she went on to share: "When my mum Cath died, I felt a mix of emotions from anger to isolation, and very much alone……feeling this real sense of ‘why me?’ and that’s ok, there’s no right or wrong way to grieve.

"That is why I’m proud to be supporting @Suerydercharity #ToBeHonest campaign, which encourages people to open up and be honest with feelings associated with grief." And Lisa's followers were quick to rush to show their support to Lisa while also sharing their own experiences of loss.

@garveyangie said: "Love this honest post. I was the same when my mum died. It’s the worst thing you can ever go through." @mamabearsewsbest commented: "I love this x so many people avoid you when ur mum dies xx support and being able to talk about them is a previous thing xxx so much anger x that sits inside you when u cannot feel free to let it out. Thinking of you."

@rachel.braier posted: "Thank you so much Lisa - an amazing ambassador for @suerydercharity." @ourqueenie72 shared: "That made me feel a little better thank you so much Lisa." @waggly_dogs_walker added: "She looks so beautiful Lisa. You must miss her dreadfully. So sorry to hear how you struggled with grief. Life can be so cruel some times but as usual you’re turning something so painful into such a positive attitude to help others. Your amazing."

And it's not just her emotions that Lisa has been honest about. Last month, Lisa was praised for 'normalising' a beauty ritual as she posted a candid snap on her Instagram. The Emmerdale favourite from Bury sparked a discussion after she shared her routine to tend to her top lip.

The soap star posed makeup free with a towel wrapped around her head as she bleached her upper lip hair. Lisa, 46, who has played the iconic character Mandy Dingle from 1995 to 2001, reprising the role in 2019, had a laugh with fans as she said the home treatment needs to be done every couple of months.

"Yes that Saturday morning ritual that needs to be done about every six to seven weeks….otherwise…as I discovered yesterday in selfies you look like you have brown gravy on your top lip in photos PMSL!!!" she joked.

Lisa added: "I love the glamour of it all!!! It’s only 16 minutes away from being a blonde top lip #saturday #toplip #bleach #bleaching #hair #away #wax #glamour #face #beauty #beautyday #today #goodmorning #morning #smile #laugh."

Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes shared crying laughing emojis. Mandiec2000 applauded: "So good to see someone normalising this!" and julierobbbins said: "Well done for being so 'real' xx"
