ITV Emmerdale Faye star's Coronation Street ex and life threatening health scare

Emmerdale fans have been concerned about Faye's true motives since she first arrived in the fictional Yorkshire village.

The character, played by Jane Gurnett, has started dating Mary Goskirk in the ITV soap and their romance has blossomed. However, things took a turn this week when Mary revealed the women's shelter she owns in Ecuador had burned down.

Viewers were convinced something more sinister was at play as Mary vowed to throw a fundraiser to collect money for Faye. Spoilers for next week's episodes reveal that fans' fears will be realised when Suzy Merton exposes that Faye is a fraudster.

Mary will be left for dead in shocking scenes next week after she confronts Faye about her criminal scheme. Away from the soap, Jane's life is, fortunately, less explosive than her fictional character's.

The 66-year-old has enjoyed a successful career in showbiz, which has included roles in Casualty and Dangerfield. She was previously in a relationship with Coronation Street star, John Wheatley, who played Joe Broughton on the Cobbles.

Jane has also been in a relationship with Corrie actor, Ray Fearon, who played Nathan Harding from 2005 - 2006.

She welcomed a daughter named Rosa May after a 12 year battle to conceive. She opened up about the birth with Sunday Mirror in 1998 as she said: "I was trying but nothing was happening and I kept thinking 'next time'.

"Then the doctors told me it would never happen. It was terrible. I had to have medical intervention before I could have Rosa May."

Jane also revealed in the interview how she had a life-threatening health scare. She said: "I'd been getting these pains in my stomach and I thought I would go along to the casualty department of my nearest hospital to have them checked out.

"They weren't very severe, but enough to make me worry. When I was checked over, they discovered that I had an inflamed abscess which was ready to burst at any second and poison my system, quite possibly fatally.

"In fact, the doctors said I would almost certainly have died, had I not sought medical treatment. None of them could work out how I had been able to get to the hospital without an ambulance."
