Emmerdale fans think a new romance could be on the way for Leyla Cavanagh - but not with Jai Sharma. Viewers of the ITV soap were furious earlier this week when the wedding planning took Jai's kindness as an opportunity to pounce and kissed him just as his girlfriend Laurel Thomas walked by.
Jai has been looking out for Leyla after she nearly relapsed following her stint in rehab for her drug addiction. Leyla was pushed out by her family after her son, Jacob, discovered she had been buying drugs and, after locking her in her room, met with her drug dealer which ended up in him being stabbed.
In scenes aired earlier this week, Leyla received her decree nisi, ending her marriage to the local doctor. As Jai paid her a visit after learning of the decree nisi coming through, Leyla told the businessman: "I knew it was coming but I didn’t expect it to hurt this much." She later confessed: "It is not just my life that I destroyed. It was Liam's."
But as he left and they said goodbye at the door, Leyla lunged at Jai and the pair shared a kiss, which was spotted by his girlfriend Laurel Thomas. Horrified, she hurried off and the episode ended with an angry Jai telling Leyla: "What was that for? That’s not what me and you are about. It is Laurel I love."
During Tuesday's trip to the Dales (February 28), Jai was seen going to see Laurel in a bid to explain himself after he stayed at his dad's for the night to give her some space. He made it clear that nothing happened between him and Leyla and that he'll tell her he can no longer be the person she leans on for support.
After Jai went to pass on that message to Leyla, she was gutted. She later spoke to Suzy Merton, who had headed to offer support to Leyla after some encouragement from Jai, about the predicament, admitting she feels 'lonely' without a man in her life. Suzy tried to encourage her to embrace being single before suggesting they watch a film to take her mind off things.
And Emmerdale fans were quickly flocking to social media about a possible Leyla and Suzy relationship after the latter was left in the village by former partner Vanessa Woodfield.
One fan said: "Just put Suzy and Leyla together already." Another shared: "I hope the writers put Leyla & Suzy together." A third added: "I still ship Suzy and Leyla"
