ITV Emmerdale David Metcalfe's appearance leaves fans taken aback

Emmerdale viewers were confused by David Metcalfe's appearance on tonight's show.

Thursday's edition of the long-running soap explored the fallout of the dramatic love triangle between Jacob Gallagher, Chloe Harris and Noah Dingle.

Jacob has been filled with regret ever since Chloe spent the night with him, despite her being in a relationship with Noah.

The character, played by Joe Warren Plant, awoke at the start of tonight's episode to find his dad David had returned to the village

David exited the Yorkshire Dales on Tuesday's episode alongside Victoria Sugden as they feared for their safety after Meena Jutla's return.

The character, played by Matthew Wolfenden, suggested they should go away to London with the kids until the Meena situation is resolved.

Meena has since been charged with her crimes, but viewers on Twitter were taken aback by David's swift return to the soap.

Grianne said: "David's back already seriously?"

Ryan added, alongside a laughing emoji: "That was a very quick holiday David"

Lauren posted : "Wait David and Victoria back already"

Jamie tweeted: "David and Victoria only went away for a couple of days"

Cat said: "Why is David back again."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV and ITV Hub with an additional episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
