ITV Emmerdale airs Vanessa Woodfield's heartbreaking exit scenes as Michelle takes soap break

Emmerdale fans have said their finals goodbyes to soap favourite, Michelle Hardwick, after her character Vanessa’s heart-breaking exit aired last night.

Last night's episode of the ITV soap saw Michelle's final scenes play out as her on-screen persona, Vanessa said a heart-breaking goodbye to her partner Suzy (Martelle Edinborough) after the two called it a day on their relationship.

The plan was that the couple would leave together, along with son Johnny (Jack Jennings), however, things changed when the two decided their respective trust issues meant it was the end of the road for them as a duo.

Meanwhile, Vanessa's friends had organised her a leaving party over at The Woolpack, blissfully unaware of the heart-breaking developments.

Once she arrived emotions got the better of Vanessa and she burst into tears revealing to friends Mary (Louise Jameson) and Rhona (Zoe Henry) that she and Suzy had split up, "She's dumped me," she said in between sobs.

But Mary took matters in to her own hands when she decided to convince Suzy to show up for Vanessa. Mary told Suzy: "You can't leave things like this. You love each other, I know you do, do you really want to leave things on such a sour note?"

However, Suzy was uncompromising and insisted her attending the party would only worsen the situation. As the bittersweet send off came to an end, viewers saw Vanessa and Johnny say their final goodbyes and get in a taxi.

But it wasn't long before Suzy stopped the driver leaving Vanessa shocked to see her. The two exchanged a heart-breaking goodbye with Suzy wishing Vanessa well in her new venture, "don't ever forget just how brilliant you are." she said.

The pair confessed their feelings for one another before sharing one final kiss as they agreed that some time apart might not be such a bad thing.

In reality, actress Michelle is taking a break from the soap as she heads off on maternity leave after welcoming her second child last month.

Michelle is in a relationship with Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks. They met on set and got married in 2019. In October 2020, Michelle gave birth to a boy called Teddy and they have recently welcomed a little girl named Betty.

Michelle Hardwick, 46, shared the news of their new baby in a heartwarming Instagram post. The post includes a black and white shot of her and her daughter moments after the birth, as well as a close up of the baby.

Michelle wrote in the post: "Introducing Betty Brooks to the world! Betty made a cheeky early appearance on Tuesday 15th November weighing 5lb 10ozs. We all love you so much our beautiful Betty B."
