Dancing on Ice viewers were left infuriated just minutes into the latest episode as they asked 'have they learnt nothing?' The second episode of the ITV skating competition aired live on Sunday night (January 22) and saw the second half of the celebrity line-up make their debut.
Last week's show saw the first six out of 11 of the famous faces take to the ice with their professional partners which saw Ekin-Su Culculoglu land up in the skate-off. However, it wasn't until last night's show that the Love Island winner discovered who she'd be up against as the remaining five couples performed for the first time.
RuPaul’s Drag Race star The Vivienne became the first drag queen to compete on the ITV1 skating competition. For their opening routine, The Vivienne, 30, and their dance partner Colin Grafton, delivered an energetic performance to Strong Enough by Cher. However, it was former Hollyoaks star Carley Stenson who topped the leaderboard during the episode with a score of 32 alongside her partner Mark Hanretty.
Coronation Street’s Mollie Gallagher gave an elegant performance to Angel Eyes by Abba as she took to the ice for the first time with her skating partner Sylvain Longchambon and comedian Darren Harriott gave an energetic routine to Fireball by Pitbull with his skating partner Tippy Packard.
However, it was John Fashanu who became the first celebrity to be eliminated from the new series. Following the public vote on Sunday, the former footballer, 60, found himself in the dreaded skate-off against Ekin-Su, 28. John and his professional partner Alexandra Schauman had earlier paid tribute to his sporting background as he performed to Eat My Goal by Collapsed Lung.
The 60-year-old then performed again, this time to Norman Greenbaum’s Spirit In The Sky while Ekin-Su and her partner Brendyn Hatfield skated to No Tears Left To Cry by Ariana Grande. After the couples went head to head, the judges voted unanimously to save Ekin, sending John packing.
Earlier in the episode, to open the show, the professional ice skaters performed a dazzling routine to a rendition of Dancin’ Fool by Barry Manilow while dressed in tuxedo-style outfits. Afterwards, the live audience rose to their feet and made an almighty racket in the purpose-built studio at Bovingdon Airfield.
However, Dancing on Ice viewers were once again unimpressed as they criticised the level of noise from the live crowd as they tried to watch the competition unfold at home. @BurySue complained: "The audience noise is totally ruining this. Have you learnt nothing from last week #DOI #DancingOnIce."
@lorrainejohnso2 wrote: "Wish the audience would shut up for 5 minutes..no need to woop at every move...distracting #dancingonice."@Bigal38143680 said: "#DancingOnIce studio audience noise is way over the top - unwatchable now!" @a_webb echoed: "#DancingOnIce has become unwatchable due to the ridiculous constant screeching and hollering from the audience. Just awful."
@sethellie_sarah pleaded: "@ITV @dancingonice Please can you stop the audience with their contstant whooping and screaming . Its totally ruining the show!!! #dancingonice." @pammy1231 added: "#DancingOnIce after years of watching and loving DOI I’m afraid I’m going to have to stop watching, the constant screaming from the audience is too much for my nerves to take."
The recurring complaints came after host Phillip Schofield had to quieten down the crowd as he and Holly Willoughby tried to open the show. As the pair tried to battle through the noise, Phillip, 60, eventually requested: "You can sit down now."
