He's one of the most famous faces in soap after starring in Coronation Street for 22 years. But Jack P Shepherd, who plays Corrie favourite David Platt, saw the funny side over a case of mistaken identity at the supermarket.
The actor, who has played former bad boy David since 2000, thought it was hilarious when a cashier in Sainsbury's recognised him, but not for his role on Coronation Street. Instead she was adamant that he was a contestant on the ITV gameshow Tipping Point.
"Just in Sainos then," he said in a video shared on Instagram. "Woman on the till says 'where do I know you from?' I went 'oh it's Coronation Street. "She went no. No you were on something last night.' She went 'Tipping Point, that's it'"'

Jack burst out laughing as he recalled: "I went 'oh right was I?', 'yeah, how did you do?' 'not bad.'" Jack, who has played David since he was 12, won Best Soap Actor at the TV Choice Awards in 2020. He won the 2018 British Soap Award for best actor and the 2008 British Soap Award for Villain of the year.
He previously revealed that his journey into acting is down to his mum. The actor says he was failing at school then, during the six week summer holidays, his mum ordered him to put his 'jazz shoes' on and go to youth club with his sister.
He explained on his Instagram: "My mum was tearing her hair out, school books were empty. I would write the date and the title and that was p***ing it. Teachers didn’t know what to do. I wasn’t naughty or disruptive in class, I just did s** all! Nothing."
He added: "My mum even took me to the doctors to see if I was deaf ffs! I remember her being so upset when the doctor simply shook his head and said 'I’m afraid your boy can hear perfectly well.
"Then. It was the 6 weeks holidays. The dreaded 6 weeks she said 'you’re not sitting on that PlayStation for 6 weeks! You’re going with your sister to a youth club. Ya can sing, dance and act so put these little jazz shoes on and get in’t back of car …NOW!'"
When he joined the famous street the Yorkshire-born actor didn't expect to stay for as long as he has. He was only contracted for three months originally.
"I thought 'oh that's nice. It's a nice gig for three months and then I'll try and go and get other things,'" he said. "But they kept on wanting to keep me around like a bad smell."
Jack arrived in Weatherfield in April 2000 and in December that year he featured in the opening moment of 40th anniversary live episode with Tina O'Brien playing his older sister Sarah telling her brother to come inside to get ready for school as he kicked a ball.
David has featured in some of the soap's most dramatic storylines including the thrilling live episode to celebrate ITV's 60th anniversary in 2015, which saw drug dealer Callum Logan killed off by David's late wife Kylie as he attacked Sarah. He and his mum Gail and Sarah famously survived being kidnapped and driven into a canal by serial killer Richard Hillman in 2003.
His wife Kylie was stabbed to death by Clayton Hibbs in 2016 and he planned to kill both himself and Clayton by driving a petrol-doused car into a police van carrying the killer. But, devastatingly, neighbour Anna Windass was accidentally set alight instead.
David later found love again with Clayton's mother Shona Ramsey but they almost split for good when he learned her true identity. Jack was highly-praised for the soap's harrowing rape storyline, when David was drugged and attacked by mechanic Josh Tucker in 2018, and the following year Shona was injured after being caught up in a mass shooting.
Devastatingly as a result Shona lost her memory and had no recollection of her marriage to David when she came round from a coma. The pair have since been getting to know each other again and rebuilding their mariage and are currently working hard to keep David's tearaway teen son Max in line.
