Coronation Street stars have been throwing their support behind one of their own after an exciting announcement. It was revealed this week that Harriet Bibby, who plays Summer Spellman in the ITV soap, has been put up for a National Television Award.

The big telly bash, which is due to take place in September, revealed its longlist with Harriet making the cut for the serial drama performance gong. At the moment she is up against co-stars Charlie De Melo, who plays Imran Habeeb, and his on-screen wife Toyah, played by Georgia Taylor.

Maureen Lipman, who stars in the long-running show as Evelyn Plummer, Kelly Neelan actress Millie Gibson, and Sally Carman, who plays Abi Webster, have also made the list alongside stars from Emmerdale, Hollyoaks, and EastEnders.

Among those quick to show their backing was Elle Mulvaney, who plays Summer's bestie Amy Barlow in Corrie. "She's only gone and got nominated for an NTA!!!" the 19-year-old actress wrote alongside a glam snap of the pair on her Instagram Story. She then encouraged her followers to vote for Harriet 'and all things Corrie'.

Elle also tweeted her support, writing: "Super super proud to say that the brilliant @HarrietBibby is up for an NTA!!!!" before retweeting a post and adding: "The TALENT in this category"

Jack James Ryan, who plays Elle's on-screen boyfriend Jacob Hay, was also quick to show his support. Sharing a photo of himself and Harriet out in Manchester from her recent birthday night out, he said: "My best little mucker @harrietanneb is now officially a NTA nominated actress," before telling his followers to "vote for her immediately."

He was also publicly backing Paddy Bever who made his debut on the cobbles last year as he took over the role of Maz Turner. He has been put on the longlist for Rising Star alongside rival soap stars and actors from Netflix hits Bridgeton and Heartstopper.

"He's always been my rising star but you now have the opportunity to make him the nations rising star," the actor wrote alongside a behind-the-scenes snap of Paddy from the Salford-based set.

It showed the teen actor keeping warm in a red ITV puffer jacket and dressing gowns while filming scenes which saw Max's life hang in the balance. "Couldn't be prouder of my boy and dressing room buddy," Jack added with a link to the voting site. Elle also tweeted her support for Paddy, writing: "& also a special shout-out to our Paddy Bever who is up for the Rising Star award!!!"

Meanwhile, Charlie De Melo has been left stunned by he nomination. The actor, who is set to leave the cobbles, tweeted upon finding out the news: "Well this is very thrilling and as close to a metaphor about my working life on't Cobbles as its possible to get. Well out of my depth, propped up, surrounded and bettered by extraordinary, talented, powerful women. Very proud to be in your company. Thank you."

The National Television Awards are taking place at the OVO Arena Wembley in September and will be hosted once again by comedian and The Masked Singer presenter Joel Dommett. As well as all the usually categories, a new one has been added for 2022 for Expert, with Steven Bartlett, Martin Lewis, Jay Blades and Wim Hof up for the gong.
