Soap watchers couldn't quite believe what they were seeing as rogue businessman Stephen Reid's killing spree continued on Coronation Street. On Friday night (January 20) fans saw Stephen wailing in despair after he took the life of yet another character.
Rewind to last month, Corrie viewers saw Stephen have a shocking showdown in the street with Teddy Thompkins which ended with Teddy fighting for life. The father of civil engineer Leo, who began a relationship with Rovers Return landlady Jenny Connor last year, angrily confronted Stephen over the disappearance of his son.
Teddy revealed that Leo had never arrived in Canada to start a new life as expected, the texts he sent had come from Weatherfield and he intended to break the news to his fiancee Jenny Connor. As Stephen, who pushed Leo to his death from the Underworld factory back in September as he threatened to expose his financial troubles, panicked that the net was closing in, Teddy was suddenly hit by a van.

Stephen was secretly delighted when he thought Teddy had taken a turn for the worse in hospital, only for him to recover and to be brought home by Jenny. In the latest trip to the cobbles Stephen was panicked when Teddy's memory was suddenly triggered.
As Stephen headed out of the factory, Teddy approached and revealed he now remembered everything and accused Stephen of having done something to Leo.
Teddy grew angry, revealing that he remembered every word of their conversation before the accident. Stephen, who recently landed a job at Underworld, led him into the factory office. When Teddy vowed to report him to the police, Stephen whacked him over the head with a hole punch.
Fans flocked to Twitter to mock Teddy's shock demise. @StVitusDance tweeted: "Death by holepunch. Thats gotta be a 1st." And @DavidMackayy asked: "Would a hole punch really kill someone? I’m not buying it."
@Beardybill1 asked: "Hands up who had 'in the factory with a hole punch' as their #corrie cluedo guess?" And @dazman007 marvelled: "#Corrie Killed by a hole punch that’s a new one."
@CavoloChe joked: "Killed by hole-punch? No wonder Teddy is stationary!" and @fansvfavourites questioned: "Survived a speeding car but was done in by a hole punch? okay."
Then there was a twist as Stephen's colleague Michael Bailey arrived, needing a hole punch. Viewers expressed their concern that Michael may now end up being in the frame for murder.
@portiaporcupine said: "Handy that the hole punch will now have Michael‘s fingerprints on it #Corrie." @sandra_husk wrote: "This Stephen storyline on #Corrie, is going on too long now. Hope he gets caught soon, otherwise there won't be anyone left on the cobbles, hope Michael don't get the blame for hitting Tedd."
@DavidBoink tweeted: "Unbeknown to Michael, his mitts are gonna be all over murder weapon and who will PC Tinker believe." @Surfingspaniel said: "Can’t wait to see what motive they’re going to come up with for Michael to murder Teddy. Have they even met?"
@DavidMackayy decided: "Poor Michael’s gonna end up inside for Stephens crime isn’t he?" @beppatweets wrote: "Ah he’s going to use Michael to take the fall, his finger prints will be all over that hole puncher." And @CxxPIPxx echoed: "Michael gonna be in the frame for Ted's murder with his prints on the punch?"
Fans were in stitches again as Stephen put the body in a roof box and had the help of Kevin and Abi Webster and Tim Metcalfe to haul it on top of his mum Audrey Roberts' car. @DavidMackayy tweeted: "Has Stephen really shoved his body in the roof box LOOOOOL I said that as a joke." @TavernHoyden joked: "#corrie The roof-rack murders."
@HarryFan4Life_ said: "Makeshift coffin." And @sofaneilas wrote with a stream of laughing emojis: "So the question of if a car roof box can hold a body is questioned!"
Later Stephen was stricken to learn that his mum had taken her car back with her spare keys. Not only that, she had driven it to the Peak District to visit her friend Bev Unwin to make the problem even bigger for Stephen.
